Toddler hit by car in Newberg dies at hospital
NEWBERG, Ore. -- A 1-year-old boy died at the hospital after getting hit by a car in Newberg on Monday.
It happened just before 4 p.m. on 4th Street near Meridian. The child was being pushed in a stroller by his 13-year-old cousin at the time, police said.
The boy was taken by LifeFlight to a hospital, where he later died.
Police said the driver of the car that hit the toddler stayed at the scene and was cooperating with their investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
The boy's name has not been released.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Newberg-Dundee Police officer Drew Boggs at 503-538-8321.
The funeral is today for 1 year old Alexander.
a child is hurt, one is gone, and a family and close friends are mourning a deep loss. stop judging. and tell your family u love them everyday.
When I heard this on the radio news, I was shocked that the little guy had passed away. I was truly hoping he was going to pull through. Sad for all parties involved.Â
RIP Little Tyke. I heard an interesting concept that parents who have lost their small children in mortality will get to raise them to adulthood during the Millennium. What a wonderful concept. I hope it's true.
Well that explains a little more. 13 year old pushing the stroller.

I am so sorry for everyone involved. So many lives damaged, one that will never grow up. How horrible the driver must feel about this.
Everyone can put their own details into play on this article, but all it says was a toddler was hit and life-flighted to a hospital. I truly hope he recovers. And I hope this is a lesson learned by those involved. Something went terribly wrong, and someone's decision created this boy's future.Â
Details. Was the mother jaywalking with her child which I see fairly often in Portland? Was she in a crosswalk? Was she on the sidewalk and a drunk rammed into her?

So many questions, so few answers.
@RalphCramden most of that side of newberg doesnt have stop signs, 4 way traffic, no signal or signs. its really stupid and dangerous and people get hurt a lot.
We live in Newberg and watched a woman pushing a baby stroller and two small children walking in front cross a 3 lane rd at a crosswalk with no light, full of traffic and almost get plastered....Just because you can do somethings does not mean you should.....use some Common Sense..!!!!!
So lets see here we have either a very stupid parent/guardian who disregarded the traffic conditions at the time and figured the vehicles were going to stop.....or....we have a very stupid driver who may have been drinking, had a medical issue, did not see the stroller or just disregarded the pedestrian already in the crosswalk...........how about releasing significant factors as they relate to the story before putting a half baked story out there.
WELL STATED..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was on side street in a neighborhood 4 way traffic 1 way stop sign. There is a young child in the hospital fighting for his life and all you people can do is judge? Shame on you. Please pray for ALL people involved. This is a tragedy. Thank you KATU for reporting.
i think newberg is set up super dangerous, most of the south side of town doesnt have stop signs, and you creep through praying a car doesnt come through the intersection because both directions dont have a stop sign. countless people have been hit by cars and its so sad/dangerous. I would say even just a dozen more stop signs would make that side of town a lot safer.
