PORTLAND, Ore. – Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a Southeast Portland deli and got into a fight with the clerk and two customers Tuesday afternoon.
The store clerk told police that the suspect, a white man in his mid-30s, flashed a handgun and demanded money at around 3 p.m. The unidentified clerk refused to give him any money and the two began to struggle over the gun.
Surveillance video shows two customers joining the struggle and hitting the suspect. Police said a loaded magazine dropped to the ground during the fight. No shots were fired.
The suspect ran away. Police said the clerk suffered a minor hand injury.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Portland police at 503-823-0405.
KATU's Lincoln Graves contributed to this story.
The customers should have beat him to a pulp and then held him down while the clerk shoved a salami down his throat.
If I owned a small business like this, all of my employees would be required to take firearm courses and they would be carrying 24/7
The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is.....
Man 3 asian americans couldn't take him down!
So this was at 8028 se powell??
The odds of him failing were 3 to 1. Better luck next time.
Nnnnnnnice!
The only downside from where I'm standing is that they didn't get the chance to connect a few more times. Perhaps a few days nursing some bruised ribs and putting ice on his face will give this cretin some time to reconsider his lifes ambitions and persuits?
...there's always hope, huh?
I'm beginning to think that these small business folks ought to be allowed to carry a side arm. I don't honestly think I'd want any job where a cash register's involved, unless I was armed. Too many desperate people out there, too many trying to get their next fix, and too many total loons out there anymore.
@danosknows There is really nothing preventing them from arming themselves unless the owner of the business is against his employees being armed.
@HenryBowman Yeah, but for some of these folks, they might not be able to afford a gun, or their employer says no.Frankly, I think if I were in a job like this, I'd get a legal permit to carry concealed and do it anyway.
