HILLSBORO, Ore. – Detectives arrested an 18-year-old Hillsboro man who they said stole money from a resident’s room at a senior living center.

The suspect, James M. Eldridge, was an employee at the Rosewood Specialty Care senior living center in Hillsboro.

Washington County sheriff’s detectives got a tip last month that someone was stealing cash from a resident’s room. With the unidentified resident’s permission, they set up a surveillance camera in the room and recorded Eldridge stealing money.

Eldridge was arrested on Feb. 6. He has since been fired from his job as a general helper at the center. He did not provide medical services to residents, according to Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. David Thompson.

Eldridge was taken to the Washington County Jail. He faces charges of criminal mistreatment and theft.
