Charter bus driver cited for deadly Old Town crash

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police have cited a 68-year-old charter bus driver who they said hit and killed an 18-year-old Vancouver woman in Old Town in June.

Police said Charles Atarashi Start hit and killed Monserrat Hernandez-Garcia with his AMTRAK charter bus June 8. Start turned from Glisan Street onto 6th Avenue and hit Hernandez-Garcia just before 4 p.m., police said.

Start was cited for failure to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian and careless driving, police said. The Multnomah County district attorney office reviewed the case.
