SALEM, Ore. – Two people were arrested Thursday night after leading police in a high-speed chase up Interstate 5 in a stolen car, according to the Oregon State Police.
The owner of the gray 1996 Honda spotted her stolen car on Silverton Road near Fisher Road NE in Salem just after 6 p.m. and called police, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies then pursued the car as it traveled northbound on I-5. Just before 6:30 p.m. OSP was notified about the chase, state troopers said.
OSP joined the pursuit near Woodburn and kept the car in sight until officers from the Tualatin Police Department deployed a spike strip at the Nyberg Road off-ramp of Interstate 5.
Police said the driver of the car, 22-year-old Jesse Plata Jr. and his passenger, 18-year-old Norberto J. Martinez were arrested.
Both are charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Martinez was also charged with a probation violation.
Plata also faces charges of eluding police and reckless driving. He also has a parole warrant.
Both are being lodged in the Marion County Jail.
The owner of the car reported her car stolen in the morning.
Police said the suspects reached speeds of 100 mph during the chase.
