Class canceled Monday at flooded elementary school

MILWAUKIE, Ore. - Classes are canceled for students and staff at Oak Grove Elementary School in the North Clackamas School District due to flooding.

A sprinkler head burst and flooded eight classrooms, according to district spokesperson Joe Krumm.  Krumm said the freezing temperatures are likely a factor, but the district is still looking into an exact cause.

The damage left standing water under students’ desks and has crews working through the night to clean it up.

“It’s impressive,” Krumm said about the damage. “I just know from over the years, the teams that come in do a great job and they make the difference.

Our job is to make sure schools are open for kids, and we're going to do our darnest to get it ready for kids by Tuesday.”

A final decision about when students can return will be made Monday.  The one classroom where the sprinkler burst will not be used for several weeks, Krumm said.
