CANBY, Ore. – A couple was trapped in a car when a large tree fell on it Sunday afternoon in Canby, firefighters said.
It happened near 950 NE 34th Place at around 2:45 p.m.
The 100-foot tall tree fell onto two vehicles, according to Canby Fire Division Chief Troy Buzalsky.
A husband and wife were trapped inside a Hyundai Sonata. The tree fell on the car seconds after they parked, witnesses said.
Firefighters rescued the couple from the crushed car by pulling them out of the passenger side window. They were taken to OHSU in Portland.
Witnesses said their injuries did not appear to be serious.
Neighbors who spoke with KATU News said the trees sway in strong winds, and they felt a few strong gusts Sunday.
The tree also damaged a van owned by the same couple.

 @randola Why are you yelling?
 @medborgare Aren't hazard warnings usually in bold caps? I could be wrong... Good thing I couldn't bold it too huh??!!
Holy cow those persons are lucky to be alive...I have no clue from the story, WHY this healthy looking tree was damaged...perhaps a recent snag ??
Â
However if you have ever cut trees into firewood or fallen/fell them, check out how freaking long the "barber chair" is on this tree.
Â
It has to be at least 20 feet and would puncture any dump truck, etc, including your Subaru...also the broken spot on the still standing tree, 'eye balls only" with picture at 20 to 30 feet off of the ground, heavy ...
@yaquina ...The tree is a doug-fir. They have a very shallow root system and can be subject to blow down very easily. One almost hit me during the Columbus Day storm in '62.
 @yaquina That neighborhood was created by cutting trees out of a fairly dense forested area. This exposed the trees to the wind where they used to be protected by the others around them. A dangerous situation. Lost a beautiful old maple tree to that phenomena when my neighbor clear-cut up to my property line.
Â
The "amusing" part of all this is that many of the people in that area, after cutting down trees to build their houses, strongly oppose any attempts to cut trees so others can live in wooded areas nearby.
Guess what's better than having the winning Powerball ticket?
Hope they're ok. Sorry no one bothered to proof read this story before posting it.
 @badcat Why are you succ a spelling & grammar critic when you bring nothing cogent to a discussion - just curious??
 @boned You're confusing me with Mechanic, who you were reprimanding earlier. Why do you enjoy the word "cogent" so much? Was that the word of the day on your toilet paper, or what?
Â
Oh, and it's spelled "such" not "succ". Just trying to help.
Â
So what should the discussion here be, considering how little information is available? Shall we ponder what caused the tree to collapse? What type of tree it was? Where were they returning from? If they're registered Republicans? What sort of cogent contributions do you have to make, boned?
 @badcat Ha, ha, ha, I like you!
 @The_AnnaCannard My comment to katu, which you remarked on yesterday, could be referred to as "grammar Nazi" but my response to boned was in regard to his spelling not his syntax, so that's really a "spelling Nazi". This helpful comment to you is another fine example of "grammar Nazi". Have a nice day! =)
 @badcat  @boned My mother would refer to this as, "grammar Nazi"
 @Scotty9 Maybe the TREE was Republican!! Haha!!
 @badcat  @boned LOL! Well we know for a fact that they must be republicans because we now that those evil repubs want all the trees cut.
 @Rob C 503 Now THAT is cogent!! lol
@badcat I don't néed to tell you Badcat, but you're wasting your time with this nimrod.
 @badcat got to wonder if KATU is outsourcing copy writing to India.
@xilef regnu @badcat Hmm...Errpublican I take it;-)
@CramRalphden ......wow. You can politicize proof reading and bad journalism?
 @badcat These first edition no detail reports are usually just a copy and paste of the police news briefs.
@badcat ........the proof readers and editors take Sunday off and leave the newsroom to the children.
It is not any better at hillbily 6, 12 or that other cesspool cnn.
@Rob C 503Â ........the proof readers and editors take Sunday off and leave the newsroom to the children. Is that what they are calling trained spider monkeys rhese days?
 @Rob C 503 Pfft... the proof readers have taken off most of 2012.
 @Rob C 503 And even though it's been updated, it still reads "two vehicles in a parked outside a house". Sigh.
 @Rob C 503 PSU wanna be journalists. Before you jump, I have two degrees from PSU, but they are technical and not the Art's...
@boned @AndyPÂ @Rob C 503Â
You with your two degrees might want to learn where to place apostrophes before you start criticizing other people on their skills.Â
