Court docs reveal disturbing allegations against Woodburn priest

WOODBURN, Ore. - Court documents released Tuesday afternoon reveal the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy by a Woodburn priest happened at his house following a church event.
Father Angel Perez, 46, a priest at Saint Luke Catholic Church, made his first court appearance in the afternoon after his arrest early Monday morning. Police began an investigation after they received a report that a child said Perez had inappropriately touched him.
Perez faces one count of first-degree sexual abuse, which is a felony. He's also accused of giving alcohol to a minor.
Court documents say Perez invited the boy to spend the night at his house after a party. The boy told police Perez touched his genitals and took pictures using a cell phone very early Monday morning. The documents also say Perez was naked from the waist down.
According to the court documents, after the alleged abuse occurred, the boy ran out a door of the home and out onto the street. The boy told investigators that Perez gave chase in his underwear but after the boy called out to a couple people he spotted on a driveway, he no longer saw Perez chasing him.
According to detectives who interviewed Perez after he was taken to the police department, Perez said he had drank too much alcohol, became drunk, eventually blacked out and didn't remember anything that happened.
He told detectives that he remembered going upstairs to brush his teeth and when he returned he saw a look of "disappointment and anger" on the boy's face.
Perez has no history of complaints in the Catholic Church and has been at Saint Luke Catholic Church for four years.
Faithful parishioners spoke out in support of Perez even after the stunning new details surfaced.
In a show of respect for Perez, the Garcia family has a picture of Perez front and center on the mantel. Isai Garcia, 16, said he went to Saint Luke's every other week.
"I was just shocked. It's hard to believe he's accused of something like that," Isai said whose brother is in the picture with Perez.
Whether the photo will remain on the mantel, Isai said, "We'll see – see what my family, what they decide."
Bud Bunce, spokesman for the Archdiocese of Portland said it's the first time Perez has ever faced trouble in the Catholic Church.
"It's very troubling. We've worked very diligently to implement very rigid child abuse policies to prevent this from happening," he said.
Perez has also worked in parishes in Corvallis and Coos Bay. He's been placed on administrative leave as required by the archdiocese of Portland's child protection policy. That means he's not allowed to say mass or perform any other priestly duties.
The archdiocese will also conduct its own investigation once the criminal proceedings against Perez are complete.
MEMO to ROMAN CATHOLICS . . YOUR CHILDREN are not SAFE in the Roman Catholic "church"Â Â
REALITY CHECK . . . Â 1)Â "Years ago, Catholics would not have thought twice about allowing their children to be alone with a priest or religious in any context or condition. The priest was to be trusted implicitly with the lives of those children, particularly in the area of sex, since he had promised never to engage in sex of any sort. We now know that numerous priests and bishops did not abide by their vow; in fact, the percentage of those who engaged in abusive sex with children is four times the number of those in any other profession. And that number does not include those who may have engaged in consensual sex with men or women. So, why did we trust the priests/religious who abused us? Because we were socialized into believing that priests and religious were practicing celibacy. Â

The Baker diocese offered training to parents and church volunteers, but not to children, and Vasa said he still believes parents are the best line of defense against child sex abuse.â NOTE (The Santa Rosa diocese, which includes 42 parishes and 17 schools from Petaluma to the Oregon border). YOUR CHILDREN are not SAFE Bear in mind that it was the National Review Board convened under the auspices of the USCCB that identified the cause / nature of the clergy abuse scandal perpetrated by her priests as 1) âhomosexual predation of Catholic youthâ. The genesis of the problem has been identified as HOMOSEXUALITY in the RC hierarchy / priesthood by men who are at variance with RC doctrine. Can you really afford to wait until your child is sacrificed on the altar of priestly abuse? Given the present sobering realities, parents are left with but one option . . LEAVE! I honestly believe just as the âchurch hierarchyâ covered up the routine practice of transferring abusive priests from one diocese to another, most of âthe faithfulâ are ignorant of the fact that the RC priesthood has been overrun by homosexuals. This too has been a secret well-guarded by the powers that be who felt that the laity just did not need to know. This should serve as a WAKE UP CALL to the laity that sit complacently in their pews and who continue to "Pay, Pray & Obey"! Time for parents to give their bishops a vote of no confidence and opt out of the unholy, irreformable false âchurchâ of Rome!
Since this is a very visible problem in the Catholic Church I would invite ALL the CLERGYÂ to Demonstrate their Faith and Love of their Flock by VOLUNTEERING to have a COMPLETE..."Â CASTRATION " ....and maybe the people could abstain from attending during this process until it's completion....
MEMO to ROMAN CATHOLICS . . The Roman Catholic "Church" is a TEMPLATE 4 CHILD PREDATION The RC âchurchâ, as an institution fosters/promotes child predation / child abuse. As *Richard Sipe explains: âThis sexual aberration is not generated from the bottom up â that is only from unsuitable candidates â but from the top down â that is from the sexual behaviors of superiors, even bishops and cardinals. Bishop Thomas Lyons, now deceased, who was an Auxiliary in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C. groomed, seduced, and sexually abused a boy from the time he was seven years old until he was 17. When that boy grew into manhood he in turn abused his own child and young relatives. When I asked him about his actions he said to me, âI thought it was natural. Father (Lyons) told me a priest showed him this when he was growing up.â A pattern was perpetuated for at least four generations. *Source / Website: richardsipe.com / Priests, Celibacy, Sexuality & the Catholic Church Article Online: Open Letter of author Richard Sipe to Benedict XVI / Link: http://www.richardsipe.com/Docs_and_Controversy/2008-04-20-Statement_for_Pope.html
Too all of you that defended this sick pedophile yesterday.. Learn or do some research! Especially UtterReality!  Sticking up for pedophiles has got to be one of the grossest most discerning evidence of ignorance in people on this forum.  I hope this dirt bag gets t-bagged by a dozen convicts!! Â
He got drunk to the point of blacking out? Not only is he a liar, but he is an alcoholic that needs to seek treatment. Intoxicated or not, there is no excuse for this.
I have methods that can prevent such occurances. It's not mutilation but a small and very minor surgical procedure along with R/X that prevents/blocks the creation and accumulation of the hormone testoserone. In due time the constant hormone influence to sex acts begins to wane and then...goes away....problem solved.
Â
A little snip here and tie a little knot, a little snip there and tie another little knot. A prescription and that ought to do it. No 'woodies' no stimulations, no nothing and you even get to keep your manhood and your priestly vows.
Â
If your going to be a Catholic Priest and make yourself celibate and keep vows of chastity and find that your having too much trouble with a wild imagination, self-indulgence, sexual tendancies, etc. then....you need a little extra help.
Â
My method works, quarenteed.
"Perez has no history of complaints in the Catholic Church"
Â
Duh. It's the catholic church. They should look for a history of accolades and commendations. Child abuse is actually encouraged by completely ignoring and denying it. From the average human in the big silly hat that is in charge all the way down through the local level.
Â
In fact, maybe this didn't happen at all. Maybe it's a "miracle". Â
You need to read this !!!  and Yes Angel is No Angel....

...
Already knew.
"Faithful parishioners spoke out in support of Perez even after the stunning new details surfaced."
Â
THE FAITHFUL NEED TO RE-THINK THEIR POSITION.
@Lost River These people are brainwashed....there is no other explanation.
"Faithful parishioners spoke out in defense of Perez ..." It is not just the hierarchy in the Catholic Church that is to blame. These good Catholics will act like the child just made the whole thing up in defense of a priest - such a sick, sick institution.
quoted: "According to detectives who interviewed Perez after he was taken to the police department, Perez said he had drank too much alcohol, became drunk, eventually blacked out and didn't remember anything that happened".
Â
I have a hard time believing that getting drunk makes a priest sexually abuse a child..!!!  And why was he getting drunk with this child.?
Alas, middle age crisis.
Remember this is not the first or last time this supposedly will happen, its a practice being performed by the elite at the highest levels...Joe Paterno, Michael Jackson, Dr. Phil, and many many more politicians, priests, and celebrities. Â And think about all of those celebrities abused by their parents; add these two lists together and its a giant conspiracy.
Innocent until proven gulty in a court of law, folks... Admittedly, it doesn't look too good for the priest at this point, but there's still a ways to go in the investigation... let's not start building the scaffold just yet...Â
Â
Even apart from the allegation of abuse, I DO think that his statement (to the detectives) that he got so drunk that he passed out while he was supposedly caring for this 12-year-old makes his conduct inexcusable in and of itself.  Â
Â
If the boy's story is true, I hope he can get whatever help he needs to move past this event.  Â
Very stupid for the priest to ask the child to spend the night. Where were the parents?
@denb
Unfortunately for the child...it must have been a case of "blind faith" on the parentâs part. :(
@denb The parents had no reason to distrust the priest, so let's not blame the parents or victim.
Â
I do agree tho: odd for a child to spend the night with the Priest. I have never been aware of slumber parties for young men with a Priest.
@Cindy B. @denb Really?? You would allow your child to sleep over at a Priest's residence??? People are more naive than I thought.Â
@Cindy B. No one is blaming the parents or the victim. It is just a simple question --- where were the parents. And yes I do know what I am talking about because I have experienced this very same situation.
He claims that while acting as guardian for a child he drank so much be blacked out and doesn't remember anything. By his own admission he is criminally negligent and has no business being a priest..
The police should pull up the memory on the cell phone, that should provide the necessary evidence to confirm the story from the accuser.Â
I don't want to know this stuff. Just shoot the guy and get it over with. He can appeal to a higher power once he is dead.
You know what? You are a sick man. I happen to know Fr. Angel Perez, and I have known him for a very long time. He would never do that.
 @kj14Â
Ah, I'm not the one in jail for child molestation. I am sitting outside enjoying the day.
Â
What are you going to do if he is convicted of this crime? You are young. Never say never. It paints you into a corner you can't get out of.
@RalphCramden Ralph, I agree with you 100% that child abuse is appalling and worse. However, like everyone else in this country, he does have the right to a fair trial. That being said, if found guilty, then by all means, shoot him, or lock him up forever and let Bubba have his way with him. In some respects, shooting a child abuser is too good of a punishment. They should be made to suffer for a long time!
 @shek069
Â
It is true that they are innocent till proven guilty but PD does not arrest folks unless they have a really good case. Their success rate is pretty high in cases like this.
Â
Suffering is good. And other prisoners really hate priest child molesters.
Screw you. Maybe you should do that to yourself.
 @MrAchilles  @shek069 Â
He admitted to it?
Â
Cool.
Â
Now they can just take him out back and shoot him.
@shek069 @RalphCramden Well, well, well.. looks like this guy admitted everything. What a sick individual!
ignorance must be bliss..
You got it correct......
 @UtterReality  @shek069Â
I certainly agree that due process needs to take place and would not be very happy if an innocent person was executed for what ever reason. Hey, I fell really bad for those folks who did 20 years in prison and were later exonerated by DNA. That has got to be hard.
Â
I do get pretty carried away with those in a position of trust who abuse children especially those that take pictures and pass them on.
Â
We do need the death penalty for those folks because they cannot be rehabilitated and are just defective humans.
@UtterReality  @RalphCramden I'm with you there UR! Based on what this story is saying, this guy is most likely guilty and should be punished to the full extent. There is no excuse for his alleged actions. If he did in fact do what the story says, then he needs to suffer.
@RalphCramden  @shek069 Look at it this way - if the police got called by a third party, and they found this drunk guy alone with a somebody else's child, would they have any choice not to arrest?  Especially with the highly charged politics of sexual abuse in the Catholic church?
Â
Don't get me wrong - I'm not defending these types of actions, or the priest. Â The police probably have more evidence than the story provides. Â It's just sort of impossible to make a firm judgement from the content of the story itself. Â Â
Â
Did the people on the driveway call the police? Â The news story is just recanting what the boy said - it doesn't mention if there were actual witnesses or not.
Â
Did the police actually find photos on the priest's cell phone? Â Once again, the story is just recanting the boys allegation that photos were took. Â Obviously it would be damming evidence if the police did find photos.
Â
It doesn't look good for the priest, but I'm the type to allow the slow wheels of justice to turn.
@RalphCramden Good point! He most likely is guilty and I hope that if he is, it comes out in the trial.
Who called the police? Â Was it the people on the driveway?
Â
Sounds like the cell phone photos (or lack thereof) will be the smoking gun in this case.
Wow! Inviting a youth who is not your child for a sleep over with no other people around, youth or adult is a huge mistake. The story makes it sound like him and the boy where the only ones there. Then drinking while you are in charge of someone else kid is icing on the cake. If this guy didn't do it, he set himself up for the allegations.
Another despicable act committed by an agent of God on earth. Well, I know God will sort them out and reward them for their actions. I sure hope so!!!!
Don't worry he can get a job on the Penn State coaching staff.
Forty-six years old and no complaints? These impulses and behaviors didn't happen over night or because he had too much to drink. There will be more victims come out and more that will remain hidden. The wolves go where the sheep are. Shameful.
