PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Fire and Rescue crews extinguished a two-alarm fire at a Southeast Portland church building on Monday.

Lt. Rich Chatman said crews had to back off to a defensive strategy because the fire at the Portland Apostolic Faith Church spread very quickly after it started.

The church is located near S.E. 52nd Avenue and Duke Street.

The building the caught fire was the camp office, a multi-use building across from the main church building.

Everyone inside the building safely escaped the fire.

Crews called for more resources with a second alarm.

Firefighters said the building's round roof made fighting the fire difficult. Crews had to break through the building's back wall.

It’s unclear what started the fire.
