COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE – Multnomah County search and rescue teams found a hiker Thursday morning who had been missing near Horsetail Falls.
Search planes spotted a flashing light and thermal imaging of a fire that led them to 33-year-old Jessica Wheeler of Wasco, Ore.
Wheeler had been planning to spend several days camping and hiking with her dog, Sophie.
On Wednesday evening around 6:40 p.m., somebody called police to report that they'd been on the phone with Wheeler, and that she'd said she couldn't find the trail to hike back down.
Early Thursday morning, rescue crews headed toward Wheeler. They found her at about 7 a.m.
"She's cold, uninjured and happy to see us," said Multnomah County sheriff's office Lt. Steve Alexander. "We're going to be real safe and methodical about bringing her out."
Alexander said it would take as long as four hours to get Wheeler back down the trail.
"Our team as well has been out there for 10 hours so we're just gonna take it slow and steady," he said.
