BANKS, Ore. – Police arrested a Vancouver, Wash. man who they said was driving under the influence when he crashed his SUV with his three children inside early Tuesday morning.
It happened on Highway 6 west of Banks at 12:05 a.m.
Police said Matthew D. Evans, 25, was driving eastbound on the highway when his SUV went off the road, hit a guardrail and rolled over.
Evans’ three kids were hurt in the crash. His two-year-old daughter was thrown from the SUV. She was taken to a Portland hospital. Police said she is expected to survive.
Evans’ 6-month-old son and 5-year-old daughter were taken by family members to a hospital with minor injuries, according to police. The names of the children were not released.
Police said Evans had minor injuries but declined medical attention. He was arrested on charges of DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering (3 counts) and assault in the fourth degree (3 counts). Police took him to the Washington County Jail.
