Dalai Lama schedules UO visit in May

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Dalai Lama added a stop at Matt Knight Arena to his three-day Oregon visit this spring, the University of Oregon said.
In November, his office in India confirmed that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama planned a visit by Maitripa College, a Buddhist institution in Portland. It's scheduled May 9-11.
On May 10, the Dalai Lama will give his lecture entitled "The Path to Peace and Happiness in a Global Society" to crowds at the Matt Knight Arena.
On a visit to Portland in 2001, the Oregonian reported, the Dalai Lama attracted 25,000 people to Pioneer Courthouse Square and a crowd filled Memorial Coliseum.
A schedule shows the visit beginning with an interfaith discussion and then a public talk followed by a question and answer period in Portland. The visit laid out many other stops in the Portland-metro area.
The University of Oregon said that ticket information will be released to the public in the coming weeks.
A friend of mine who is a former  Tibetan Buddhist lama now here in Portland (no family) and dying from ALS (Lou Gherig's) is hoping to attend in Portland. I hope we can find a way for a ticket : ) This would be a wonderful  dream of a lifetime come true!
@whirledworld Greetings, Please ask the lama to contact Maitripa College for verification and possible assistance. www.dalailamaportland2013.netÂ
