OCEAN SHORES, Wash. (AP) - A deputy on patrol Thursday morning found a dead whale washed up on a beach about four miles north of Ocean Shores, three miles from Ocean City beach access.

The whale is a 68-foot Fin whale that has been dead about a week,
according to John Calambokidis with Cascadia Research.

The whale apparently died from blunt force trauma near the head, which is consistent with being struck by a ship, he said.

Calambokidis examined the whale Thursday morning with assistance from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The logistics of sampling and possible disposal of the whale will take place within the next couple of days.
