Deputies: Alcohol, speed possible factors in fatal Gresham accident

GRESHAM, Ore. – A man died and the passenger in the car he was driving was sent to the hospital after a single-vehicle accident Saturday night in Gresham.

The accident happened at about 10:45 p.m. in the 30300 block of SE Lusted Rd.

Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies said it appeared the car had been traveling west on Luster when it crossed over the eastbound lane, went off the road and hit a utility pole.

The car hit so hard, it broke the pole, spun around and went into a ditch 40 feet away.

Gresham's Derek Allen Cranford, 25, died at the scene, and the passenger was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said alcohol and high speed might have contributed to the crash.
