GALES CREEK, Ore. – Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old girl after they said she crashed an SUV while a man was riding on the roof.
Washington County Sgt. Bob Ray said another man was climbing from the inside of the Jeep Cherokee onto the roof when the crash occurred Saturday night in Gales Creek.
Both men were injured in the crash.
The driver, Abbey Hatch of Forest Grove, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Ray said.
Deputies said Hatch was driving faster than 30 mph when she failed to make a turn and the Jeep crashed into a ditch, where it rolled over.
Before the crash, 24-year-old Richard Cutright of Forest Grove was riding on the roof of the Jeep and 21-year-old Seth Staples was climbing from the inside of the Jeep onto the roof, Ray said.
Medics took Cutright to a hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Staples possibly suffered internal injuries, but he is expected to survive, deputies said. He was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to a hospital.
Hatch faces charges including DUII, assault (4th degree) and reckless driving. She was cited and released.
It’s unclear whose SUV Hatch was driving. She did not have a driver’s license, Ray said.
Hatch is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 3.
