Deputies: Man shot in the back while walking along Aloha street
ALOHA, Ore. – A man was shot in the back while walking along a street in Aloha Saturday night, sheriff's deputies said.
It happened near Southwest 170th Avenue and Vendala Park Lane at around 9 p.m.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he is in critical condition. His name has not been released.
Witnesses told deputies they saw two Hispanic men in their 30s running away from the scene. Both were wearing dark blue clothes, according to Sgt. David Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 503-629-0111.
I live in the neighborhood very close where the shootings occurred.  I heard two shots, close together. A minute later I heard a car or two drive by but not screeching away. It took 10 miniutes before I heard the first siren comming to the scene. From that point on I heard a number of sirens and, as I looked out from my front porch, I saw many security and emergency responce vehicles blocking off the roadway. They have spray painted on the street in a pattern that I interpret as a layout of the body. It is under the streetlight.  So, I interpret the scene as this:  the victim was under the street light and the shooters took good aim.  I am concerned that I find little information about this crime in the Oregonian or on-line. The police in various roles (Sherrif SUV, photographers, black and white vehicles) have been present in the neighborhood since the shooting. But in the Oregonian and on line, I cannot find out more detailed reports of the shooting.Â
OK, let's assume that most all guns start out as legal. I believe that to be true. If we banned the private sale of guns, making it a felony crime to do so, wouldn't that stop a majority of the guns that are illegally obtained in this country? Just asking the question... What are some of your thoughts on this? It does not ban guns, but it controls the method of distribution, at least to a large degree. Seemingly.
@randola Yes it has worked so well with drugs lets extend it to guns...really you even have to ask that question looking at our drug problems?
@FreedomRocks I am not sure there are laws on the books requiring the safe storage of meth or heroin or cocaine or (fill in the blank here). Apples and oranges my friend.
@FreedomRocks You are forgetting that legal gun owners are the pinnacle of responsibility and truly beyond reproach when it comes to weapon storage and private sale...
@randola If making anything illegal would stop people from doing it don't you think we would have far less crime in this country? Laws only keep the honest people honest.Â

@Fed up Fed You had me at hairless apes.
@Fed up Fed  @I812 well said.
@I812  I am in the camp that believes that drunk driving laws do reduce the amount of drunk drivers. Lots of times, keeping honest people honest is what is needed to mitigate and reduce crime. Obviously no law stops any crime, but I guarantee that many people have called a cab because of duii laws.
@I812  @randola I don't know, but that attitude sounds a little defeatist to me. We already know that all the legal gun owners are honest and responsible. So it seems to follow logic then that there should be some common sense and responsibility centered laws and procedures that should be followed. I am all for gun ownership. However I am not sure I am for leaving them unsecured in your glove box or under your seat or anywhere else they might easily be stolen by a criminal element.
@I812 And, privilege and right may not mean the same thing, it seems that some common sense approach is necessary to mitigate the damages regarding this issue.
@I812 And also, I was raised to understand that with privilege comes responsibility. And that level of responsibility changed depending upon the times. For example, once my father became ill, I took on some of what were his previous responsibilities. At that point, there was more required of me. That might be a bad example, but I feel something of that nature applies here.
@randola I believe that the vast majority of them were stolen first - which means everything that happens with that firearm from that point forward is already criminal - possession, use and sale (plus of course the theft itself). I think most private gun sales occur between friends, coworkers, club members or at least acquaintances - I know a lot of gun owners and most of them would be very hesitant to sell to a complete stranger, especially a handgun. Obviously it does happen, but I bet it's a pretty small percentage. Most of the guns that the police get from criminals were stolen at some point in their life.  Â
@Ifishsum OK, I can understand that. I am not a gun owner, however I have considered it in the past and don't have anything against it. I just wonder if there are potentially millions of guns that have been stolen, what condition are they in that allows them to be stolen? Seems that perhaps adequate safeguards may not have been in place to protect their theft? I am trying to wrap my head around this. How do we actually improve things going forward while still protecting people's right to bear arms?
@PTLD CITIZEN I will not be getting one any time soon, and if and when I ever do, I will take safety classes etc. No excuse for anyone not to. And I would also like to say that your attitude toward safety and responsibility is refreshing. If everybody were acting as you, there would be far less guns getting stolen or otherwise falling into the wrong hands.
Now just comes the issue of private sale...
@Ifishsum    I am of the opinion that it is every gun owners responsibility to keep their weapons secure. This can be accomplished in many ways. All new firearms come equipped with a trigger lock. Or if you purchase a used weapon you can buy a trigger lock or use a padlock from the hardware store. For those who wish to have quick access to a handgun for defense against home invasion there are small safes that recognize a hand print. For larger weapons use a safe or run a cable lock through the triggers of multiple weapons and lock them to something immoveable in your house. As a gun owner I take that responsibility seriously enought that I feel there should be some legal consequences for those who do not take adequate measures to keep them secure and they are stolen and used in a crime or a child or mentally ill person gets their hands on it and hurts or kills someone.
If you are seriously considering buying a weapon and have never owned one before then please take a safety class so you don't kill yourself or someone else. Because, just like cars, power tools, heavy equipment (the list is long) accidents happen when people don't have a proper understanding of how things operate.
@PTLD CITIZEN  @FreedomRocks i agree. It is unreasonable that the property owner should be held liable for the criminal who injured himself in commission of a crime.
@FreedomRocks  And heaven forbid said thief gets hurt on your property by cutting himself on broken glass from busting out your window to gain access, being bit by your dog or falling through a skylight (this actually happened BTW, and an old lady at home alone got sued by the criminal). The law protects criminals. To my way of thinking if someone is guilty of a crime they have forfeited their rights in this circumstance. But the property owner may be held liable.
@randola  @Ifishsum Well for starters we don't punish property thieves in this country anymore. They get a slap on the rest have sent back out to repeat their crimes.
Â
If we had actual harsher penalties for stealing of weapons that would be enforced by our liberal judges you could put a crimp on that pretty quickly.
That's IT! Â Ban dark-blue clothes!
Yay the gang problems portland suffers are moving to the suburbs.
@Jeremy Aloha is the outer-southeast Portland of Washington County.
Oh. Look. Another gun story! How could that be? Oh. Wait. They couldn't have written it without another gun, now, could they?
@Mechanic How about we talk about the fact the these criminal scumbags are allowed to walk our streets? The gang problems have been going on a long time an due to political correctness we cant seem to put these dirtbags where they belong.
@Mechanic Yeah, throw all hispanics behind bars or send them back to Mexico. That's what you're saying, right?
@Riley35 Yes if they're here illegally then they need to go back. They're felons the minute they sneak across the border, guns or not.
@Mechanic " Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related." I'm sure they went through the proper channels to obtain their weapons.
 @randomdude Â
Every gun pretty much starts out as a 'legal' gun. What happens after that is often the result of what 'legal' owners do/don't do with it. I'll bet most every gun that ends up in a gangbanger's hand started out with a legal owner who didn't secure it or sold/traded it with no regard to where it would end up. There is plenty of blame to go around. I just wish the gun nut community would start shouldering their share and do something about it.
@ormom I asked the question in a different thread ormom, what constitutes a gun nut in your opinion?
 @FreedomRocks
That's a pretty thin shell you got there, nut. My comment wasn't directed to all who exercise their 2nd amend. rights, only the rabid nuts.
@ormom  @randomdude I think the GUN NUT community assumes those that always complain about people who exercise their Second Amendment rights being called NUTS is as big a part of the problem. Their strong reaction against anything proposed by someone who starts out with calling them NUTS is just common sense and human nature...
I am NOT surprised!!!!! The invaision continues in Washington County and Gresham, just like a cancer that will kill the American way of life.
Â
Remember the Alamo of 1836, the fight continues.  If obama had his way the United States of America would be either the United States of mexico or la raza

Naw your just to dumb to realise that criminal invaders are a national security issue.
Â
BTW: Since when is being a mexican a race.....oh since your friends at la raza brainwashed you.
Â
U are one dumb dude or dudeet
I intentionally DO NOT capitalise the names of those I disrespect......Quite frankly I don't care what you think of my writings, the intention is to get U to read them and it apparently works.  I very seldom read yours.....Â
Fed seems like the typical dumb dude knuckle dragger with his comment "why? You want a piece?" Seems every time you tangle with me, you end up looking stupid. Sure you want to step in?"
Â
Wow Fed you are really a loose cannon here and are starting to look like a physical threat to all who oppose you. Time for you to get back on your meds or find another site to try and intimidate others.
Directed to Fed, the la raza racist
Fed is just a la raza racist against whites. Remember the Alamo when your ancestors came across? We are still trying to remove the illegal vermon.
@Fed up Fed  @FreerideNOT It seems to that all you can do is call people names. Make a point, I guess I shall call you Troll.
 @Fed up Fed  @FreerideNOTÂ
'Illegal immigration actually isn't a crime. Â Crossing the border without permission is a crime, but it's misdemeanor trespassing, so...not really much of a criminal offense'
Â
Well, let's explain the situation with a bit more detail.
Â
If, and ONLY if, the uninvited trespasser were to be independently wealthy, and sit down at the beach and vacation the whole time they are here, then yes, it would not technically be a felonious offense under Federal law. But... (and we all know the reality and dynamics of the illegal immigration problem..) with the exception of a few gang-bangers and career criminals, the motivation for nearly every adult is to come here and WORK. Â So, once they accept ANY type of job/work in the US, they are looking at numerous Federal felony offenses:
Â
a). Illegally accepting employment w/o authorizatoin
b). Illegal use of an official instrument/ID theft/Social Security fraud
c). (etc)
Â
Those are just the basics that nearly every illegal worker commits. There are often other criminal acts that are related to and committed by illegals.
Oh, and, just because a crime is classed a 'misdemeanor' does in no way change or lessen the fact that it is a criminal violation subject to prosecution.
Â
So, in short, the argument -- ' well, it's not a criminal violation for just stepping across the border without inspection/permission' -- the problem is, NO ONE does just that. Â And even then, if they did, they would not be able to repeat the act because upon illegal exit/re-entry it IS a felony offense. Â The second big problem is: Federal govt is not prosecuting all the offenders so no person outside the US respects the law.
 @FreerideNOTÂ
Â
No, the "prime meth trafficers" [sic] are rednecks in Eugene and Roseburg. Like you.
@FreerideNOT Oh, goodie. Another opportunity for us to look at who is "too dumb." Ok. Let's start with punctuation. I can accept "Naw" as a word, if you are using it colloquially for "no." But you need a comma after it. "Your" is incorrect, even though it may sound like "you're" to YOUR uncultivated ear. "To" is incorrect, even though it may sound like "too" TO YOUR uncultivated ear. "BTW" makes me cringe, as do most texting shortcuts, but we can let that one go as well. "Mexican," however, absolutely must begin with a capital letter, and a question (even a rhetorical one) must end with a question mark. The answer which you supplied to the question is another sentence, and it, too, must begin with a capital letter. The ellipsis is totally incorrect and has no place here. "La Raza" is the name of an organizaton, and it, too, needs to be capitalized. You already know my feelings about texting shortcuts, so we can skip over the "U," but at least you started the sentence with a capital. Good boy. I am not sure what a "dudeet" might be. Could it be you are trying to feminize "dude" and really mean "dudette?" Please go back to school before you post anything else and embarrass yourself any more. Thank you.
@Fed up Fed @FreerideNOT Hello, Fed up Fed, if you break a law - even if it's only a misdemeanor - you are a criminal. Definition of criminal:
Â
1: relating to, involving, or being a crime <criminal neglect>
Â
2: relating to crime or to the prosecution of suspects in a crime <criminal statistics> <brought criminal action>
Â
3: guilty of crime; also: of or befitting a criminal <a criminal mind>
@Fed up Fed  @FreerideNOT Are you sure illegally entering the US isn't a felony?
@Fed up Fed Call them racist a few more times..... Your almost making a point........
There is a legal way and a criminal way to do things, my friend is involved in several cultural things, is a member of the OSB, his son is with a US law enforcement agency, both have in social settings express disdain for those here illegally regardless of where they are from. legal yes, illegal NO.
Â
Its really quite simple regardless of race legal or illegal.
@FreerideNOT who are you addressing with that comment me or Fed?
If you only knew,,,, when I am here with none to bright, I feel like you clowns are bringing a knife to a gun fight. Yes I am not the one with the knife.
@FreerideNOT I'v noticed that actually. Found it to be pretty interesting.
I have a close friend who was a mexican but now a long time legal US citizen, he hates illegals and makes no bones about it. Legal mexicans do not like illegals, after all a criminal is a criminal
@Fed up Fed  @FreerideNOT wouldn't your mind be blown if he was mexican.
To bad we caught two mexicans in our barn trying to hotwire a truck, the dogs and a Mossberg 500 kept the in one place until the sheriff finally showed up and they got deported.
Â
Congratulations on your demotion to grammer police......
Â
btw:Â you mexican friends are prime meth trafficers.
@Fed up Fed  @StealthActivist  @FreerideNOT Ya, I'v heard white and black.
@StealthActivist  @FreerideNOT I don't think he ever said he was white.
@FreerideNOT BTW, they were here first, so it's the caucasians who are the invaders. And before you call someone else dumb, you should learn how to put a sentence together, otherwise you just look like a hypocrite. Finally, as a side note, the only people who've attempted to break into my home are dumbass tweeker white folk like you.Â
So lets see here none to bright what would be your reaction if a person breaks into your home? or your business?  The US is our home, would you demand a severe criminal sanction? Criminal illegals are only good if they are caught and deported.  BTW: to hate a criminal is NOT racist and yes none to bright illegals are criminals!!!!!
