Deputies search for Eugene shooting suspect in Gervais

GERVAIS, Ore. – Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies planned to search overnight Saturday for a shooting suspect on the run from police in Eugene.

The person they were looking for could be the man who shot a woman across the street from South Eugene High School Saturday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Jeff Stutrud of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, at about 8:11 p.m. Saturday, a witness spotted a Dodge vehicle matching the description provided by authorities in Eugene.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Oregon State Police, Gervais Police and Salem Police responded to the Salem Gun Club property, where the man may have been hiding late Saturday.

K-9 officers will continue searching the property overnight. Deputies also requested a Portland Police helicopter to assist in the search from the air.

Several roads were shut down near Concomly Road and Highway 99E in Gervais while officers search for the suspect. People in the area are asked to call 911 if they see anyone suspicious.
