Did father and two children rob banks in Oregon and Texas?

FORT BEND, Texas -- An Oregon family who is charged with several Texas bank robberies, may be at the center of investigation for robbing banks in Oregon as well.
Ronald Catt, 50, and his son Hayden Catt, 20 and daughter Abigail Catt, 18, were arrested Nov. 9 after allegedly robbing a Katy, Texas bank Oct. 1. The family is originally from Oregon.
After police interviewed the three suspects, they think the trio may be connected to five bank robbery cases in the Portland area.
Fort Bend detectives notified Oregon authorities to see if some of the cases in the Portland area match up with the new information. Beth Anne Steele, the spokeswoman for the FBI office in Portland, said none of the three have been charged in connection to any Portland-area bank robberies. She also refused to say whether the FBI is investigating the case.
In the alleged Oct. 1 Texas bank robbery, two men entered the bank wearing orange traffic vests and dark sunglasses and held employees at gunpoint. The younger suspect wore a fake mustache and the older suspect wore a painter’s mask. Police said Abigail Catt was the getaway driver.
Ronald Catt and Hayden Catt were arrested at an apartment in the 300 block of Dominion in the Katy area on warrants signed by Associate District Judge Pedro Ruiz. Both men have bonds of $140,000 and remain in the Fort Bend County Jail.
Abby Catt was arrested later that day at the Sheriff’s Office. She has a $100,000 bond.
Detectives focused on the emergency protective vests the suspects wore during the alleged robbery. Police went to the Home Depot in Rosenberg, Texas -– the closest Home Depot to the sheriff’s office -- to see what they had on the shelf and found one that closely resembled the vests worn by the suspects. Police later said the most important factor on the vests was the X on the back, which narrowed the search field.
Ronald Catt and Hayden Catt were further linked to the August robbery of a Comerica Bank in Texas' Harris County. In that case, the suspects wore painter outfits with painter masks.
Between the two robberies, detectives picked up on a stolen license plate case at Kingsland Boulevard and West Green in the Katy area, so they believed the suspects might be situated in the vicinity.
With that information, detectives checked the Home Depot at Fry Road and I-10, and while viewing videotapes at the checkout counters, they identified Hayden and Abby Catt as buying the vests with Ronald Catt's debit card. Ronald Catt was later videotaped purchasing a painter’s mask.
Good job on the legwork on this. Lots of posts on how lame the suspects were, but had the legwork and keying on the vests not been done,.....paying with a credit card was a big part of the undoing. Cash purchase or buying them at a store one or two counties away may have made a lot of difference. Following this lead was a slim chance of success,.....but it was a slim chance not ignored.Â
It will be interesting to find out why they decided to follow this path. There was a short article in the News Register regarding this. Not a good start on the lives of the children to say the least.
Would be interesting, Â for info on Mrs. Catt - The mom ??
@bat54
Just to let you know Mrs Catt Passed away from breast cancer when she was in her 20's. The Kids where toddlers so lets not bring the Mom into this. from Shelly Catt
@S. Catt  @bat54 Thank you for your reply. I certainly don't want to bring her into this, but since we had nothing listed about her, I was just curious.
Â
I'm sure your family is going through a ot of turmoil with all of this. May I asked a couple of questions:
Â
1) Do you or other family members believe Ronald, Hayden and Abigail are responsible for the bank robberies they are accused of ?
Â
2) Â Has there been in suspension from yourself or other family members about there actions and sudden departure to TX. ?
Â
3) Â Is there anything you would like the public to know about Ronald, Hayden or Abigail Catt ?
Â
Again, I'm sure this is a difficult time for you and the family. Â My thoughts and prayers are with you and other family members.
Â
Thanks

This just proves that the family that strays together, stays together. :-P
I think thieves are still planning their heists based on old technology. But where and how they buy the disguise is old school and a rookie mistake. Stealing plates, rather than altering one... Anyway, what a crappy dad. Hope it was for a good reason. Not that it's okay, but money to keep sick mom alive (or of that nature) will go over better than a drug habit, or something as equally lame.
An 18 year old as the 'getaway' driver, and a 20 year old as your robbery 'wingman'?
Â
Mr Catts has some obvious deficits when it comes to both rational thought process, and paternal skills. Unfortunately for both kids, the magic age of 18 means that they'll all be spending some time in a federal pen.Â
Â
Hopefully, in 5-10 when the kids get out they can see the world as it is rather than how their male sperm donar taught them, and make something of the rest of their lives. Insofar as the paternus.... There are few people in my mind as despicable and lothesome as a parent who grooms their offspring into a life of criminal behavior. Definately worthy of the worst punishment that can be put upon his worthless head.Â
if you are going to make a comment get the name right it is Catt, and also about the sperm donor comment the father and mother loved each other very much! Mr Catt was just not a sperm donor and maby there was something else happening in their lives. Obviously you do not know them. I do not think what they did was right, but you are judging pretty hard before the go to court.
Â
I never liked Catts. =)
The daughter, Abigail, is very hot - maybe I could arrange for conjugal visits?
@Ryan Conners I sure hope you're kidding about her being "hot" , she looks kinda plain to me!
again get the name right if you are going to comment Catt! leave the "S" out of it
@S. Catt Never liked a single Catt either!  =)
Well, back in the old days the kids served an apprenticeship in dad's buisness; guess these were doing on the job training!
Bet there are a few robberies between here and there too...father of the year here.
18 and going to prison. Great start to her life.
This prison sentence surely to mess up Abigail's Prom night come Spring.  So she was the gettaway driver, was she insured? Still on a learner's permit? Might raise her rates. Big brother Hayden is going to miss final's week, I'm sure he's a solid college student, just working his way through school...robbing a bank or two, maybe put in some hours at Subway. Daddy looks like all the rest of the tools in this rainsoaked dump of a city.  Â
I guess bank robbers are not as smart as they think they are. Dad taught his kids the wrong way so I guess home schooling ain't what it used to be. Wonder if they get a family plan at jail. Hope they enjoy the long stint in jail because they will have to rob a few more to come up with all that bail money....Oh wait he lost his debit card when arrested so he can't even afford a new disguise. Oh well takes all kinds.
Â
Bonnie and Clyde plus one!
The economy is so bad in Oregon even the bank robbers are leaving Oregon to rob elsewhere...
Foiled by their own disguises ? Holy hoisted petards, Batman !
The family that plays together stays together...until they are jailed. Where's mom?
@whirledworld lets not bring mom into this, kids had enough of heart break with that along with dad
Well, they sure new how to get around that is for sure 5 banks in Oregon and a few in Texas? that is a of a lot of fuel to burn.
The family that robs banks together............Nah, too easy !
"She also refused to say whether the FBI is investigating the case." Â (from the story)
Â
I thought the FBI automatically ran the investigations on bank robbery cases... or at least, was involved in them...
@margay1 The FBI only investigates robberies of banks that are FDIC insured. There are many state chartered banks around the country that are not FDIC insured thus those robberies are considered state crimes and not federal
 @FreerideNOT  @margay1 Good to know!
