DAYTON, Ore. - The body of a young man who was presumed drowned has been recovered.

Anthony Jimenez, a 20-year-old from McMinnville, went under while trying to cross the Willamette River in Dayton with two friends this past Sunday. One of his friends made it across and the other struggled but eventually got to shore. Jimenez did not make it. None of the young men were wearing life preservers.

Searchers found the body Wednesday morning about 3/4 of a mile downriver from where the young men had been swimming.

"Though this is a very tragic incident, I am thankful that this situation has concluded and that our Marine Patrol Deputies discovered the victim," said Sheriff Jack Crabtree with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.
