Do you know these babies? Deputies look for camera owners
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. – Do you recognize the newborn babies in these pictures? Deputies in Washington County hope you do.
They recovered two stolen digital cameras that are full of family pictures and they want to return the cameras to their rightful owners. Both cameras have pictures of newborn babies and family members posting with the babies.
Deputies first found the cameras six years ago when they arrested and got a conviction against a man for breaking into cars. Now the cameras are set to be auctioned off or destroyed.
Before they go, deputies are making one last push to get the pictures back to the families.
“These children will likely be starting first grade this fall and they will look different, but the photos have other clues that the right relative or neighbor could recognize, such as the adults or background items,” the sheriff’s department wrote in its newsletter.
We showed the pictures to parents at a Hillsboro elementary school this week. None of them recognized people in the photos, but said they are happy to help in the search.
“Family photos are very important,” said mother Heidi Daffron. “I’ve been in a position where I’ve lost (my son’s) pictures and it’s really upsetting, especially because it looks like a newborn.”
Even if the family is from out of town, deputies said they’d be happy to mail the cameras.
Click through this photo gallery to check out the photos. If you recognize anything, you can e-mail the sheriff’s department at Sheriff.web@co.washington.or.us.
Do you have a story idea for the KATU Problem Solvers? E-mail us at problemsolvers@katu.com
Fire broke out close to 164th & Millplaine, Vancouver. Approximately 3 loud explosions could be heard and felt up to 3 blokes away
Perhaps LE is looking for the camera owner because there was something else that was incriminating.
@Henry Lance Now we can talk.. :)Â
@Penny  @Henry Lance The owners of both cameras saw the story and contacted KATU and will be getting their cameras back. Aren't you happy to know that, Paranoid Penny? You should get out more.
Why do the police care about a couple of stolen cameras?Â
It is found property, after all. Why shouldn't they care? I would, and I would certainly attempt to get them back to their rightful owner!
@jpk I want them out catching bad guys and preventing crime, not being touchy feely.Â
@Penny Yes, you have rights....we all do. One of your rights is to let other people have their opinion, voice their opinion, voice your opinion.....but shouting (CAPS = shouting!), pouting, and stomping your wee little feet isn't the right way.....
Penny,
I get the fact that you have some issues for some reason. What I see the police doing, is taking care of people. I see them trying to help others. If you do not like what they are doing, then do not read about it. If you do not like them helping people, please make sure to post a sign in your yard that you do not want the police around.
Now try not to get over excited and have some type of medical issue...
@Penny  @Just LookinPenny, why are you shouting? Tsk, Tsk.....
 @penny:Â
So, if you "don''t care about this story whatsoever", why did you read it? Why do you continue to comment on it?
Â
I think it is AWESOME that the police are making the effort to get the cameras back to whoever they were stolen from.
Â
Reading the comments here, you are in the minority - guess you could be called a "bad penny", since you keep coming back.
@Penny To Protect and Serve. They are doing a civic duty ... how would you feel if these were the only pictures you had of your new baby taking first steps, at the hospital, in the shirt Grandpa(who is gone now) gave her/him. These pictures may mean somethng to the people that lost them. Memories may mean little to a non caring selfish person but they are Important to some People.
@QuandoQuandoQuando  @Just Lookin I have a right to hold people accountable. In this case someone has too much time on their hands at tax payer expense.
Â
@Penny  @Just Lookin Penny, you are a jerk, at the very least. What if those were your photos? Why are you making such a big deal out of this, anyway? Did you forget to take your medicine today?
@Just Lookin I AM A TAX PAYER, I LIKE TO KNOW WHATS GOING ON,
I HAVE A RIGHT, AND THIS IS NOT RIGHT. DON'T YOU GET THAT?Â
Penny, then do not read it, simple really. The police are doing a great job, trying to reunite victims with their property. If you have ever had anything stolen, you might know what it feels like to lose something. And if you ever had a stolen item returned, you might know that also.
When one does not like what is written, it is up to them to just walk away from it. Complaining really does not solve anything at all.
@jpk I want them to do their job, not tip toe thru the tulips. I don't care about this story, whatsoever.Â
You think we don't have feelings? Remember the camera was found on a thief!
Good attempt, deputies! Unfortunately, these two babies look like any other two babies. KATU, perhaps if you had used the picture including the mother/or relative with the story lead, she could be identified a bit easier?Â
@jpk Me thinks this is a PR stunt and most definitely not news worthy.
PR stunt? By who? The police in possession of a stolen camera? Give it a break!
You'd be surprised what lurks in property/evidence rooms. Stolen property must be kept after attempting to return it. Evidence (as in this case) can be released after court adjudication of the offender upon request of the DA's office after the time is elapsed for an appeal by the convicted suspect. Sometimes there really is a paperwork delay. In this case, who would you give the camera to? That's why they are trying to return it!
@jpk Focus on the important stuff..why now after 6 years??? Give me a break!Â
Ralph is right, no need to get rid of these photo's and video. Someone in the dept. needs to back this stuff up on disc and file them in lost and found with special marking to make sure nothing happens to them in the future. Once the photo's are loaded on a computer, they can be sent to a gmail account and they can be saved in Google mail for ever. That would take a little bit of time but could be worth it someday to somebody in the family. I done this may times, it works great with pictures. Video can be put on YouTube and live almost forever also.
Wow... somebody out there can probably ID the people in these pictures, so here's hoping they see this article..! Â The adults, at least, would probably not have changed all that much...Â
Â
Sure hope they can reunite these cameras with their owners..! Â Totally cute babies..! Â :-)
They have 6 year old pictures on their digital camera? Well, you are bound to lose your pictures eventually when you keep them on the card in the camera for over half a decade, theft or no theft. I'm guessing they had backed up their pictures on another device...or at least I hope they did. If they didn't have them backed up, I am sure getting these cameras back would mean the world to them. I know how distraught I was when I thought my computer had lost all my pictures and videos when it crashed with a couple months worth of that stuff on it. I was lucky and able to recover. I do back up to both DVD and External Hard Drive now.
@Portlander29 Guessing you missed the part about <b>"Deputies first found the cameras six years ago when they arrested a guy for breaking into cars."</b>.
@Portlander29 Yeah. I clicked on the pictures and read the paragraph associated with that and all it said was the pictures started on such and such date in 2006. It didn't say the date of the last picture.
Oh, and never leave anything in a car unless you can afford to lose it.
Please don't destroy those cameras. Keep trying to find the owners. It will be well worth it.
Â
On another note, this shows the importance of backing up photos as soon as possible. And back them up both at home and off site. There are lots of places that offer off site storage. I happen to use iCloud to put all my photos on which is a free service.
@RalphCramden I have over 250GB of data (Videos and Pictures) of my 20 month old son. Are their free sites to back up that much data?
 @Portlander29 Â
Â
I found a good one for you to store your stuff. It's called CrashPlan Plus. Here is the link.
https://www.crashplan.com/consumer/store.vtl
Â
For $50 a year you get unlimited data storage. More than likely the price will go up so be prepared for that. It also has some great features like being able to store stuff on family computers remotely.
 @Portlander29 Â
Dropbox offers 500GB but it is $500 a year. A lot of money. None that I can find that are free.
Â
If you have a good friend who has broadband ask if you can put a headless mini computer in his basement in a secure place and set it up for remote access so you can transfer files there. I do that with a good friend.
Â
I got a Mac Mini server with a 2TB drive attached to it at his house and it will store everything I have. If I need more storage I will just get another 2TB drive.
Â
My home has an exact duplicate setup so that if his house burns to the ground I still have it here, or vice versa.
Darling kids! Hope the owners will be happy to see the pictures again.
I am glad that the police are making this effort, the families may have replaced the cameras or considered them a loss cause, but, those of us who are moms and dads would want these photos at least. I would like to thank the police department at least for Trying :)
I could not agree more. We have lost some of our baby pics from when our boy was born in 1979, people just don't realize how precious the memories are till they move out, then it is all about trying to find the photos. We did find most of ours after some serching!
