Keeping kids safe: Do you know who is working at haunted houses?
The best haunted houses are supposed to be scary, but as a parent you shouldn’t have to worry about your child’s safety.
These seasonal businesses pop up everywhere this time of year, drawing thousands of families for Halloween fun and frights.
But have you ever given much thought to the people behind the make-up and the masks at a haunted house?
Consider the case of Joshua Stueckle.
Stueckle, a convicted sex offender from Bend, Ore., was arrested a year ago while on the job at a Haunted World in Boise, where he’d been hired to work as a horror actor.
“I met him in the beginning and I thought he might be a little odd but a lot of people that are really into Halloween sometimes are odd," said Scott Ethington, the owner of Haunted World.
Police say Stueckle, 29, had sex with two teenage girls, one of whom he met while working at Haunted World. He's now serving 30 years in prison.
Stueckle’s arrest while still in makeup from the haunted house also led to one of the more memorable and shared mug shots in recent memory.
As a result of this case, Haunted World now requires background checks when hiring anyone over 18.
Critics say if the haunted house had simply done a background check before hiring Stueckle, the incident could have possibly been avoided.
That led KATU’s investigative team to wonder which haunted houses in Oregon and Southwest Washington take that simple step, and more importantly: which don't?
Here are the results of our investigation looking at several prominent haunted houses:
13th Door
http://www.13thdoor.com/
8805 SW Canyon Ln., Portland, OR 97225
- Don’t do background checks
- Employee told Anna Canzano “pretty much everyone they work with is people they know so they’re like family.”
Frighttown
http://www.frighttown.com
Underneath the Memorial Coliseum
- Operator David Edward Helfrey told Canzano he’s done only a handful of background checks going back 12 years and only on a case by case basis. He said he knows some of his actors have done time in prison, but not for crimes he says are violent, sexual in nature, or endangering children.
Haunted Ghost Town
http://thehauntedghosttown.com/
3839 NE 122nd Avenue, Portland Oregon
- Adults and students volunteer with adult supervision. They have a policy that children are never unsupervised and parents who do the supervising have to be in pairs. Proceeds go toward school programs.
- After being contacted by KATU, operators are considering a more detailed volunteer sign-up process.
Milburn's Haunted Manor
http://milburnmanor.com/
11503 Broadacres Rd. NE, Hubbard, OR 97032
- Doesn't run background checks.
- Owner told Canzano he’s worked the last 8 to 9 years with drama clubs from local high schools and he does sit-down interviews with each student.
SCREAM
http://www.screampdx.com/
Portland location:
1940 North Victory Blvd., Portland OR 97217
Vancouver location:
7701 NE Vancouver Plaza Drive, Vancouver, WA 98662
- Just began doing background checks three years ago, after Portland police officer Bridget Sickon with the Sex Offender Registry Detail began sniffing around. Sickon said she was investigating community complaints about a sex offender, and his trail led right to Scream.
“In the course of that investigation, we determined he was volunteering out there. It isn't illegal, but we wanted to make sure the company knew this and were taking appropriate safety precautions, and they didn't know it at the time,” explained Sickon.
She said SCREAM did the right things by taking corrective action and vetting its volunteers more carefully. Still, the event producer Henry Miller was clearly uncomfortable when we started asking questions about this subject, referring us to someone else within the organization.
Some things to inquire about if you're headed to a Haunted House:
- Call ahead and ask about its hiring policy for employees and volunteers
- Ask if the haunted house do background checks on employees and volunteers?
- Ask about the rules for actors and guests while on site (Many haunted houses like SCREAM Portland don’t allow characters to touch the guests besides accidentally brushing again them)
Parents have a right to know who their children are being exposed to whether it is in a haunted house, or in their school. Â Parents also have a right to know exactly how extensive the background checking is in order to keep their children safe and out of harms way. Â There is no excuse for recklessly endangering children. Parents should not be so naive as to think that their children are safe because they cannot possibly fathom that their kids could be left in the hands of predators. Â Anyone who would object to rigorous background checks of people who work with children should be evaluated themselves, in my opinion.Â
Actually, I think it is a service to inform readers of this possible danger. Â Children should be kept safe at all costs.
Ms Canzano. I only wish you the best, and I respect your position and knowledge of the trade in which you work.
Despite my vocal disapproval of your story, I have no idea who you are, how you think and what you feel. And I certainly dont assume or expect that anything I've said will be cause for doubt, question or change to any of it. I't would be silly to assume you or anyone else has even read what I've written but in case you have. trust that none of it was meant to be taken personally and I'm truly sorry if there was even a shred of negative impact.
Â
Good luck.Â

Â
Pure yellow journalism. Shame on KATU's editors for letting this get written at all. The only fact I see here is parents should feel good that local haunted house's have only had one reported incident that was handled quickly and efficiently. Instead of trying to unnecessarily scare readers into staying home and not enjoying the Halloween season, this "news" agency should be promoting all the good local haunted houses do.
Â
While school are cutting back art programs, haunted houses give students a chance to design, build, and paint sets. They teach theatrical makeup, improvisational acting, costuming and public speaking. They take teens who often don't fit in, or are shy, put them into costume and makeup, and watch as their confidence soar as they step outside themselves and do something they love.
Â
Haunted houses are a community theater, where teens and adults volunteer, to teach and learn about theater, to give back to their communities. Many, MANY, local charities receive support every year from haunted houses, such as the Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club, Oregon Food Bank and Oxford House.
Â
Every haunted house has a security team in place, and staff members who ensure each and every volunteer is as safe as possible, and any threat to them is dealt with quickly and efficiently in order to create an safe and fun atmosphere.
Â
Instead of trying to tear down haunted houses, build them up. Recognize them for the good they do. No organization is perfect but they DO try to make sure all of their cast and guests are safe. Don't believe sensationalized journalism. Go see for your self. Every haunted house in town, Four Horsemen, Scream PDX, Fright Town, Confront Your Fears, 13th Door, and many more, are open until Halloween and deserve support for the good they actually do.
Just for the record, in this article it says that haunted house at 7701 NE Vancouver Plaza Dr. is Scream Vancouver. If the reporter would have done a little research she would have realized that she had the wrong name. In fact, the event is called Confront Your Fears Haunted Houses. Itâs actually not owned by Scream but is simply cross promoting with the Scream event. We were never contacted by this reporter or anyone from KATU.
Confront Your Fears Haunted Houses was started to create a source of funding for nonprofit music and drama arts programs once the initial startup costs were covered. Our cast is made up Halloween fanatics that either have steady day jobs or go to school and volunteer to scare people at night. Some of the students get credit in school for volunteering. Yes we do checks on our cast and crew who are over 18. The safety of our cast and costumers are our number 1 priority and we have a great team behind the scenes that you donât see who are there for your protection. Check us out at www.Confront YourFears.com
Scream most of been posting their response as I was writing mine. I agree this reporter was defiantly on a Witch hunt!  Scream was set up.

That was a trashy attempt by Anna to look like some kind of invetigative hero. Really Anna???? You are going to bring up these horrible questions in front of a little kid waiting in line with her parents? Would YOU want some stranger approaching you and YOUR family with that kind of rudeness???? That's what it just came down to... you are just plain RUDE which in it self is inappropiate. Was your last job reporting for the National Enquirer?????
Everyone is right in blasting this story. Anna is wrong. This is tabloid-style journalism at its worst. Apparently KATU does not care about its credibility.
I spoke with Anna, the âreporter,â at Scream for 20 minutes and not once did we discuss anything about our haunt having unseemly cast members. The opposite was true. Anna herself told me that we were doing everything right and implied that Scream is the model for other haunts to follow. But when she ran the story, the only part she used from the interview was my response to a weird question she asked where I referred her to the head of the non-profit who would be in a better position to field that particular question. In the story she tried to make it seem that I was âuncomfortable talking about the subject." The truth is that my response to this one question was taken out of context (no big surprise) and was used to follow a question that Anna recorded AT A LATER TIME. The truth is that we went on to discuss our screening process at great length because I had no reason to hide or hesitate. But she conveniently left that part out to further her distorted agenda. The truth is that Anna had a pre-written sensationalistic story and was not interested in conveying whatever facts or truth she learned in the interviews that was contrary to her goal.
The head of our non-profit spoke to her on the phone this morning to express his disapproval about her story. All she could do in her defense was stammer something about reporting what the officer she spoke with told her. We have been working with this officer for three years, who WE contacted first, but long before that we have been screening our cast members using public records. Again, she conveniently left that important fact out. Anna stated that we somehow had a dangerous sex offender criminal slip through the screening process three years ago and only learned of this huge error when the police blasted through our doors to save the children (insert dramatic music here). The truth is we exclude anyone who has a sex offense record and have never had a need for the police to step in for any reason. Our 12 year track record remains flawless, in spite of Annaâs story. In fact, Anna told our non-profit head when she interviewed him that her story would hold Scream out as an example for other haunts to follow.Â
Annaâs statement that FrightTown has done a handful of background checks âgoing back 12 yearsâ is remarkable because that haunt has not existed for 12 years. FrightTown opened its doors in 2005. Do the math. Very sloppy, Anna, and this goes to your reliability and credibility.
This is just one more example of a so-called ânewsâ corporation sinking to new lows to scrape in whatever dollars they can find at the bottom of the barrelâ¦and at whatever cost, including their own reputation.
Halloween remains the second most popular holiday and the start of the holiday season for good reason: because itâs an American tradition and people love it. Haunted houses are a part of that tradition for good reason: they are wholesome fun, a great family activity, and a wonderful night out with friends in a safe environment.
Here is a typical comment from one of our guests: âThe cast members are amazingânothing short of! Security guards are all funny and nice, very comforting to see them everywhere. Even though it is beyond terrifying, it feels safe as can be. Very nice.â âKayla
Scream is a popular Portland tradition of community theatre, entertaining guests from all over the world with its array of rides, haunted attractions, exhibits and concerts. It is produced locally, using skilled artists and talented actors who all live in our community. It brings smiles to the faces of the young and old. It is also open through Halloween for any and all to see just how wrong Anna is!
@ScreamPDX
I stand by my reporting, and I stand by my story. I applaud ScreamPDX for taking corrective actions once learning from Officer Bridget Sickon that it had a registered sex offender among its volunteers. I discussed early on with both representatives of Scream the nature of my story -- that I was examining local haunted houses and their hiring practices when it comes to volunteers and staff â and I took nothing from any of those conversations out of context. To suggest otherwise is simply untrue. Viewers also need to know we shot our video on site at SCREAM with a representative of the company accompanying us throughout -- that includes the questions I asked of the families who told me they appreciated the story I was doing since it's not something they'd thought of previously.
Â
The Portland Police Bureau's Sex Offender Registry detail has been helping SCREAM do its background checks for free the last 3 years, so the complaint that such background checks must cost $35 per person isn't quite valid. People can also call the Oregon Sex Offender Registry database operated by the Oregon State Police and check on individuals to see if they have sex crimes on their record. I know from my extensive and award-winning reporting on sex offenders, merely looking someone up online is not sufficient, especially in Oregon, where only 5% of all registered sex offenders are listed on the online registry - only those considered predatory, who've committed the most violent of sexual offenses, and deemed at high risk of re-offending.
Â
Again, I applaud ScreamPDX for taking corrective actions to do background checks on the people it hires. I did this investigation with no intent to maliciously impact the business operations of local haunted houses. I did it to inform the public on the hiring practices of these entities which they entrust with their own safety, as well as the safety of their families.
Â
@AnnaCanzanoKATU  @ScreamPDX "I stand by my reporting, and I stand by my story"
Â
As firmly now as you did prior to all this criticism?Â
Failing to offer nothing more than a defensive statement tells me you either ignored the reactions of several readers, or you lack the ability to understand how those reactions apply to you. Which is it Ms Canzano?Â
Â
Â
"I asked of the families who told me they appreciated the story I was doing since it's not something they'd thought of previously"
Â
I'd bet the rent that the only people who wouldnt be appreciative of the "story" might be predators. But had those same families watched the broadcast, or read this story prior to being"asked" Something tells me the question wouldnt be the same, nor the answers.
But how does the story itself, based on a vague question with good intentions on its surface (and two affirmative "answers") maintain any level of credible value, Â when at least a dozen opinions to the contrary are right here responding to the real meat and potatoes?
Â
If the question presented to a community of parents as a whole were something similar to "How can I help you protect yourselves and your children from predators"Â
Â
How long do you really think it would take for someone to say "find out how many haunted houses conduct criminal history checks on their employees"Â
Â
I dont have a guess, but considering the +/- 20 day window when odds are the greatest, it would take forever.Â
Now compile some statistics. 1200 haunted houses nationwide, 1177 of them operate an average of 20 days per 365. In the last 15 years, 1 haunted house employed a man who committed a sex crime on a child patron.Â
When you put this info in front of the community, do you honestly think they'll assign anyone to the task of finding out which of 5 haunted houses conduct criminal history checks?
Â
Or would you assume that theres already a blanket policy in place to help protect children in similar environments...called common sense discretion?
Â
If you stand by your story, one can only conclude that you assume a community of parents is more likely to subject their children to potential danger. So I must ask, how did 5 business owners become the target for change?Â
Â
Â
@ScreamPDX Respectful criticism from a qualified perspective. Isn't it a shame that news journalists are not held to the same standard.by their employers? Â
Â
Anna may or may not believe she's the first person on earth to ask the question "Is there a pedophile working in that haunted house?"Â
Â
But to overlook the hidden suggestion in the story, Â that parents dont frequently ask themselves "is there a pedophile working in ANY business my child patronizes?" ...was a fatal oversight, if in fact it was an oversight.
Â
If Anna were to suggest a method of preventing this sort of journalism faux paux, with similar logic used to create this story.
I guess it'll be her leading the bandwagon of KATU viewers, when we all show up at KPDX, KPTV, and KVAL with her photo and story. Â But who's gonna ask them all why they dont screen their employees and protect us all from stories like this?Â
And who'd be more qualified to drive this wagon without a steering wheel if its not Anna?
Â
KATUs GM?
Â
Make sure you wave at the haunted house bandwagon as you pass it. If there happens to be anyone still riding to wave at.

Â
My daughter and several of her friends have volunteered at Fright Town for the last three or four seasons and I have had the pleasure of meeting several of the delightful and slighty quirky people who she works with. They are kind, caring individuals who happen to love haunted houses and who enjoy their roles as "haunters". They are not "carnies" or "freaks"; just nice, normal people; and I am very proud of her for volunteering her time like this. The people who work these shows look out for one another and take the safety of their employees, their volunteers, and their clientele very seriously.
Â
Regarding doing background checks: These operations run on very tight budgets and have high overhead, thus their need to 'hire" volunteers en masse. Throughout the course of the season (which begins a month in advance, due to setup) a haunt may use hundreds of volunteers, many who might only show up for one or two nights. At an average cost of $35 per individual for a background check; the event would be bankrupt before it ever opened. In addition, these background checks are typically only good within the state, so that a convicted sex offender from another state will not show up on a background check run in Oregon. Many predators have never been caught or convicted and background checks are useless in these cases.Â
Â
While it would not be nearly as titillating, it would have been far more responsible journalism if Ms. Canzano had done a piece where she reminded parents that sexual predators are anywhere that there are children or teens, and that parents must supervise and educate their children; or perhaps she could have done an article on how lax sentencing for sex offenders lets them lose to prey on children again and again. As others have pointed out; they are at your local coffee shop, your church, your school, the local park, in your own home, and yes....in haunted houses, too.Â
I am with Scare Hollow on this. First off, if these haunted houses loses revenue due to this story, I hope they collectively sue Katu. These businesses are in there make it or break it season, for KATU to knowingly upset consumers should be crime. Is Katu going to run the same story at Christmas regarding mall employees?  And Furthermore, I could not believe   Anna Canzano in this interview,  questioning parents about sex offenders IN FRONT OF FIVE YEAR CHILDREN.....I can hear the kids now "mommy what is a sex offender? do we get to see one in the haunted house?" It is apparent Canzano is not a mother.Â
Â
Â
@Tyler Van Pelt Yeah, KATU did not think out the covering of this story very well.
I like how they say "people" and show a picture of a man who obviously is being painted as a sexual predator...which is how the mainstream media paints ALL men
Shame on you KATU.... This was a horrible story and very sad reporting. 90% of the these employees are teen volunteers. did you have to have a background check to work at a soup kitchen one sunday.. or at a shelter one stormy night.. NO. Â
Â
I know the Scream owner personally and for you to blast them like this is crappy "journalism". One guy in Idaho has no bounds to our haunts. I run a Haunt myself and believe me I'm not gonna pay $35 per person who volunteers at my haunt, especially when they are high school drama students. This report is basically saying anywhere you go there will be a sex offender there. So at starbucks tomorrow morning there will be a sex offender there, because in Wyoming one guy did work at a starbucks without being checked.... and served COFFEE OH NO!!Â
Â
Oregon has a no touch policy and any actor who does is removed and asked not to return to the haunt. Go to the east coast and they can grab you, slam you in coffins, spray "toilet" water at you etc.   This is shock and awe to an industry built on harmless fun. Kids are probably safer at haunts then at the mall or walking downtown. Since this industry is a volunteer industry, background checks are not a big thing. Actually what would have been easier is to ask the volunteer if they would be ok with a check, if they say no, then don't hire them and save the $35 check fee...
Â
Slow news day just put a big blow to an industry that only has about 15-20 days to pay for all the hard work and sweat us haunters go through from summer to oct 31st for the kids. In my haunt I don't do background checks and probably never will, one bad guy in Idaho will not scare me into it. Plus if i was a bad guy, i'd just change my name to avoid the background check finding anything.  COuld you have waited until after the 31st so people could forget this tabloid story before next halloween. granted they still will.  I think you owe the local haunts an apology.
@Scare Hollow I am not involved in any haunts, I am a mother of two young boys, and I agree with you and find this article outrageous. Not only for its impact on these businesses, though that is bad enough, but also because we live in a society where the media drives INCORRECT fear about the world and has everyone living in terror.
Â
If you look at the statistics, strangers preying on kids is very rare (vs someone they know). It's not good for the KIDS either to be treated like there's always someone lurking around the corner. Keeping them couch potatoes is worse for them than the tiny risk - especially if, gasp, you've raised kids who have age-appropriate lessons in what someone may and may not do/touch without their permission.
Â
This article is fear-based sensationalism, and it's just here to get page views and ratchet up our fears. Either that, or KATU has already had their fears ratcheted up and needs to read some real statistics and take some anti-anxiety medications....
@Scare Hollow Couldn't agree more. I've been involved for many years with nonprofit volunteer haunts, including Scream, and they are no more dangerous than any number of other events (churches, schools, etc.). I think KATU is obviously trolling for sensationalist headlines so they can draw in viewers and trade off their fears. I know the folks at Scream. They have been checking for years - the databases for OR and WA are publicly available. What changed 3 years ago was that the Portland Police offered to do this for Scream (and any other haunt) as a public service. Mr. Miller wasn't uncomfortable because there's something to hide. He is in charge of designing, creativity and building. It's not his role to vet cast. He referred the reporter to the person who is in charge of that vetting and it was done by Officer Sickon. There are no "hidden" sex offender dangers at Scream. The person Officer Sickon was referring to was NOT a danger to children and had the explicit permission of his parole officer and doctor. Sheesh! This story is the worst kind of yellow journalism and drives the final nail in the coffin of KATU's reputation as a credible news source. Shame on you, Anna, and on KATU. This drivel is beneath you.
I guess just about anything that happened a year ago is a good enough reason to publish a piece that ranks right up there with the Kardashian Family and true, Tabloid Journalism. I agree 100% with 'MK' & 'August,' Â however and can anyone imagine a news source in ORYGUN doing a piece on TSA and the intrusive searches of young women to include teens? Yea, that would go over real big with the SS, but a valid thought by what's-his-name...
But the State Psycho-Wackos say their BILLION DOLLAR TAXPAYER-PAID SEX OFFENDER TREATMENT PROGRAMS..."WORK" and are "EVIDENCE-BASED"...
Would it make you feel better if he met them at the mall?
Â
How about at the pizza parlor?
Â
Walking downtown?
Â
Â
Trunk or treat may be the only solution. (neighbors gather their kids in the car, all meet at the church parking lot, and go from trunk to trunk collecting candy. it's not as much fun but it ensures safety.
Might work if every parent in the country did it. But that'll never happen.
Â
Ask any parent where a pedophle is more likely to be found:
Â
A: 450,000 US churches open year-round?
Â
OR
Â
B;: in a few hundred halloween haunt-houses, open 20 days a year?
Â
You have a good heart, but consider this idea.
Should we, and could we EVER take all the kids away from the people who might hurt them?
Â
Or should we and could we keep the people who hurt children, away from the children?
Â
Any journalist worth their salt would promote the choice that has the best odds for success.Â
Halloween journalists on the other hand, use fear by suggesting that someone else is making the choice FOR you, and its the wrong one!

Hey katu if you are so concerned with child molesters and perverts you should do the story on the TSA...
 @gjUhnhwwMspREt BINGO!
Now everyone knows that in the month long annual window of haunted house business operations, anyone who might be a known, monitored criminal offender, Â and potential danger to children, may take a position as an employee in a haunted house where children frequent. in violation of the law. This person may slip through the cracks of the government-level system designed to monitor him, and also go un-noticed by a community of citizens armed with the information they need to possibly prevent this person from committing a crime after slipping through those government cracks. We now know its a good idea to find out if the owner performs criminal back ground checks on his employees before we let our kids go inside (preferably alone because we adults have too much to talk about outside)
Â
And when laws are ignored, and poor parental judgements occur, while complacent citizens are encouraged to do nothing about inadequate government policy and proceedure...
Â
We can righteously hang the business owners who failed to investigate the criminal history of a potential month long temp employee. Who could be one of the total 20% of all sexual or violent offenders, who may also find a window of opportunity in any of his 15-30 days on the job, and commit a harmful crime on a teenaged former patron who consents to a future meeting with said employee at a location away from the business.
Â
I really think the communities children will be a measurable degree safer in our communities now. Â
Especially for their entire 12 minutes of haunted house fun if they happen to get the chance to partake in the month long, then its gone FUN

Thanks KATU and shame....
@Scare Hollow Allow me to be a bit more specific with my opinion of the article:
Trivial.Â
I'm sure Ms. Canzano had some degree of good intention. The specific incident she referenced put the point on the target well enough without pidgeon-holing local business owners.
Presenting them as morally neglectful people complacent to and/or enablers of very harmful crimes was out of bounds, In my opinion it simply enhances the current popular trend in this nations communities: Established lists of who to blame for the bad things that could happen to them or their children, and placing ANY entity above themselves on that list of "who's responsible and accountable" when it does.
Â
With the broad-scale failure of current government-level policies and participation, as well as a generally unmotivated, self-serving citizen population that could have a HUGE impact on crime prevention...
The last thing on any list of wrongs to be righted might be encouraging employers to develop a pre-hire policy that disqualifies known risk offenders from employment. Especially in this short-term seasonal industry that by comparison,is nothing more than a drop in a very big bucket.Â
A drop that would not exist without the presence of parental indiscretion, which consumes a much larger portion of bucket-space.Â
Â
Â
Wow, this guy is serving 30 years for his crime, looks like Oregon should adopt some of Idaho's policies.
Remember, crooks and perverts work on holidays.
They don't "hire" these people who work at these haunted houses. Â They take ADVANTAGE of the mentally handicap people. Â They feed them lines of supposed "scouts" coming to these locations to look for people to work in the movie industries. Â The reason I know this is because my brother, who is also mentally handicap, goes and volunteers there. Â They DON'T pay these people. Â I have tried time and time again to get my brother to quit going but he is promised that they will hire him, but they NEVER do. Â The "volunteers" have been subjected to being punched due people getting scared. Â This year, the "volunteers" have had rocks thrown at them. Â Personally, these places should be investigated financially, due to how much money they make and don't pay the staff that volunteers there. Â All empty promises from the company.
@timsslave And having worked in one last year, I KNEW in advance it was a volunteer position. And I am not mentally challenged, nor were any of the other people who worked there. They need actors and people who like to have fun, they don't "prey" on mentally handicapped people.
@Lexi  @timsslave I agree Lexi, i am a haunter myself and this above comment is crazy... this report did nothing but bring out a year old report from a haunt in another state and proves nothing about portland. Volunteers are told it's not paid, if it was the haunt wouldn't make any money. Scream employs over 100 people a night... I know the owner of Scream and he would never do what Tim says was done(i know he didn't say it was scream). More shock and awe crap from Katu... shame on them
Let's see...a haunted house is supposed to be a scary place, so I'm thinking....rapists, murderers, pedophiles, slashers, thieves, thugs, brutes, celebrities, ex-professional wrestlers, priests, pastors, preachers, ministers, school teachers, neighbors, relatives, friends...oh yeah, scout masters...did I miss any?
Â
It's a scary world out there. If you're not sure, chaperone your kids or keep them home.
@Mikey You missed the haunted Pitbull~
@Mikey I think you forgot parents, those are the people who usually have the most access to children.
@Mikey C'mon Mikey...I take offense to your comment.....school teachers???  My wife is a school teacher and a damn good one...so, maybe you should think before you type.  Don't put everyone in a fricken fishbowl...I know you were being a bit sarcastic with that, but there are more good teachers out there than bad ones....
@PD1202  @Mikey yes but a freaky school teacher can be very effective. we had one last year and the kids loved being "belted with a ruler and seeing kids with no arms or legs strewn about the classroom. we had kids sit in the room and hang out. but they were scared too. it's all in fun and what scares another i guess offends another as well. Haunts can't appease everyone

"Do you know who is working at your local haunted house?" I always figured that working haunted houses was a an off seasonjob for Carnies. I donât trust them with their normal gig.
Wow! I feel like an idiot! I worry about my daughter, we keep in close touch so I know where she is, she dosen't go any place without a friend, if they go to the mall, we have check in times, she dosen't spend over night with a friend unless I have met the parents. But I never thought of this, and sent her on her way into the haunted house last weekend. Fail
@Pvpbw no not fail. you can't protect your kids from everything forever. I applaud your attention to your child, as many parents don't give a crap about them. But I assure you they are safer at a haunt then at the mall with friends.
Â
@Pvpbw not being afraid of the boogeyman behind every corner isn't a fail. I know what you mean and would feel the same way. All things considered we got through life without sex offender registries (not to mention third degree burns from the old-school Jaycee haunted house fire traps.). I don't think you're an idiot... You're just not a total hover-parent either.
@Playanekes Thanks
@Pvpbw These are some of the same people who work at the Rose Festival 'City Fair'....anywhere where kids/teens gather...that is where you will find sexual predators.
"find out which haunted house operator told her that he didnât see what the big deal was "Â

This guy must be a idiot..Â
