Dog killed when shots fired at pickup truck
CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) — A Cave Junction woman has been charged with animal abuse and attempted assault after police say she fired at two people in a pickup truck, killing a dog in the truck's bed.
The incident on Friday began when two acquaintances of 44-year-old Robin L. Smith arrived to pick up a hand tool left outside Smith's house.
Police say one of the acquaintances was walking back to the truck when Smith walked outside and fired at him with a handgun. She missed, but fired again. One of the shots struck a dog in the pickup bed, killing it.
Smith was booked into the Josephine County Jail. An attorney for Smith could not be identified Saturday afternoon.
And this crazy biitch thought this was going to end well?
This happened in Cave Junction? Color me surprised.
There is probably a lot more to this story than we are told here - she may have had a very good reason to do what she did! Please reserve negative comments until the whole story is known!!!
@musiclover Will no way reserve negative comments - you don't shoot to protect a hand tool! Ridiculous. I wish her the worst - the dog's life was worth more than hers, and my sympathy to the folks who lost their dog.
@musiclover There's never a good reason to kill anyone or anything. Leave that up to God and the law. You must be from that neck o' the woods.
@fracas Survival is a pretty dang good reason. You must be suicidal.
@musiclover No way. Anyone who pulls out a gun and starts shooting is a criminal regardless of the excuse. Lock her ass up for killing an innocent dog.
@Misty Smith    Not true - someone defending their home and family is NOT a criminal for shooting at the offender. Nor is someone a criminal for legally hunting deer, elk, etc.  As for the poor dog, yes, there should be consequences for that. As for the entire confrontation, more info is needed to determine what happened.
@ musiclover...No way. No reason to fire at the pick-up. Felonious assault.
This person decides for some unknown reason to pull out a handgun and start shooting at people? What was she thinking? This is the old west or something? It is too bad she killed the dog, she needs to be taken off the streets for awhile, and figure out what her problem is.
Â
"Attempted Assault"??? Â Â How 'bout Attempted MURDER..!?!?
@margay1 I wa wondering that myself. You go to the trouble of brinin a loaded weapon outside and shooting TWICE at someone you are not trying to assault them, your trying to kill them.
was, bringing, you're!  I need to drink coffee BEFORE posting!
@iamtroglodite Good catch on your typos, but regardless - you make an excellent point with your comment. Cannot BELIEVE she's only being charged with attempted assault!
 @iamtroglodite (-SLAP!-) (-SLAP!-) (-SLAP!-)
Snap out of it, Trog! LOL!
@margay1 Attempted murder on a human, COMMITTED murder on an innocent dog.  :(((
@margay1 Murder is more like it, a dog is dead! Man's best friend!
@margay1 The DA can always re-file, but my guess is they want a plea bargain although I would have booked her for Attempted Murder. Keep in mind, we are not dealing with sharpest tools in the garage when it comes to Josephine County because they have no money...
It's not uncommon to wait for the grand jury indictment before establishing all the charges. This charge was enough to hold her while the investigation is completed.
@boned The main reason that Josephine County has no money is that the tree hugging environazis convinced the government to destroy the economy by basically shutting down the timber industry.  That is not the fault of the people who live there.Â
@doxiemom2008  @boned If that is what you think then please explain all the other shut-down timber towns and mill towns in Oregon.
@doxiemom2008  @boned And that doesn't even take into account the radical anti-government teabaggers who vote against anything that even sniffs of a tax that might support basic services in the county.
@boned Do you think it is fair and accurate to suggest that everyone in Josephine County isn't intelligent? It seems that comment reflects more negatively on you then it does on them.
