Armed double shooting suspect arrested at transit center
BEAVERTON, Ore. – The man suspected of shooting two people in Happy Valley on Sunday night, killing one of them, was arrested at a transit center on Tuesday morning.
U.S. Marshals and officers from several local agencies found 33-year-old Jason Duane Hogan, Jr. and he was arrested without incident, according to Sgt. Adam Phillips with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Hogan was caught while crossing a foot bridge at the Beaverton Transit Center around 10:40 a.m., Beaverton Police said. Officers had received a tip he was on a MAX train heading towards the transit center.
Hogan had been on the run since Sunday night when investigators in Clackamas County said he shot Norma Jean Perrone, 62, and Gina Marie Perrone, 29, at their Happy Valley home. Norma later died from her injuries.
As of Tuesday evening, Gina was still in the hospital.
This isn't the first time Hogan and members of the Perrone family have been involved in a violent incident.
Gina's brother was convicted of attempted murder after shooting Hogan on Christmas Day in 2009. It's not clear what exactly led up to that shooting.
Investigators had warned that Hogan was armed and very dangerous. Phillips said Hogan had a handgun when officers caught him.
"Most importantly it at least gives the victim and the family of the victims some peace of mind knowing that he is in custody and that he will be held responsible for his actions," said Mike Rowe with the Beaverton Police Department, which was involved in the arrest.
Investigators spent all day Monday looking for him, even getting a tip in the evening that he was at the transit center. Officers swarmed the area and stopped buses but did not find him at the time.
Deputies with rifles also on Monday searched an apartment complex off Sunnyside Road in Clackamas looking for Hogan or clues to where he might be.
Neighbors in the Happy Valley neighborhood where the shooting happened said they were also relieved to hear Hogan was in custody.
"There was a very unsettled feeling here," said Dale Witham. "We are a pretty tight-knit group and it's been a very safe neighborhood for many years."
Hogan has an extensive criminal record, including a six-hour standoff with Clackamas County deputies in 2007.
Detectives from Clackamas County are still continuing their murder investigation, Phillips said. They thanked officers from all the other agencies that helped make the arrest and members of the public who called in tips.
IF YOU PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THE FAMILY OR THE SITUATION PERSONALLY PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL AND KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF. Â THIS IS A TERRIBLE THING THAT HAPPENED TO WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND THE ONLY THING THAT CAN MAKE IT WORSE IS YOU AND YOUR COMMENTS... SHOW SOME RESPECT PLEASE!!!!
@Tianna Hufman
 I forgot to add, if you want comments kept to ourselves, don't show up on the news.
Â
You ask for respect, but give *none*.  You use exceptionally poor form with the CAPS LOCK, and offer a purely speculative opinion as if fact ('the only thing that can make it worse").  Google for "Flamebait".
Â
 @Tianna Hufman I see it's your first time out on the Internet.  Let me point you to a great resource: http://www.fenixdev.net/

Â
I can't help but wonder about this whole situation.. What happened to make him snap and kill his girl friends mother ? and then shot her.. Did they confront him for being a loser ? This guy is shockingly nice looking, makes one wonder how he got to this desperate place ... Weird story..
 @dougrpdx Meth.
@dougrpdx He's a career criminal. That's all that needs to be said about him. He should have been in prison a long time ago.
 @dougrpdx You think looks have anything to do with a person's mental state? Get a clue.
 @Annasthong I never said that, you did.. So you get a clue..
 @Annasthong DRUGS!!!!!  GOOD OR BAD LOOKING DRUGS MESSED UP HIS BRAINÂ
 @dougrpdx No, I didn't say that. I asked you if that's what you think, because you insinuated it by saying: "This guy is shockingly nice looking, makes one wonder how he got to this desperate place". Anyway, good looking dudes almost have it worse than regular Joe's because of people like you who judge personality based on looks.
 @dougrpdx Probably because a member of her family SHOT him before?
"Gina's brother was convicted of attempted murder after shooting Hogan on Christmas Day in 2009. "
Â
Â
Does anyone actually RTFA?
Here's a great comment...'its not clear what led up to that shooting' regarding the 2009 event. Well, the brother was convicted of attempted murder so there must of been some court proceedings, trial, plea or whatever. So basically the reporter is saying that they didnt bother to research the history?
Katu~ how can you misspell his name. His name is Jason, but you have James
So here is what should happen now that he is in custody, since one of his victims survived. He should just confess, take his punishment, which should be death because he killed someone, then that way we as tax payers dont have to pay for his living expensis in prison.
Â
Just saying. I am so tired of paying for these murderers to lay around and eat food, sleep in a warm dry place and watch tv in their cells on our dollar. NOT RIGHT, if they did something that is small like stealing, then they should have to work their time off in prison with out us paying their way. and if they are sentenced to the death penalty then let that be the step after their "appeals" are up, their death.
Â
I may sound harsh but this crap of people sitting in prison earning a college degree, watching cable tv and working to only pay for their snacks is just plain WRONG.
 @athenawaverider Then do something about it.  Get something on the ballot.
If we don't get something done soon to turn this country around so that our young people start seeing some tiny flicker of light at the end of thier tunnel, the crime we're dealing with now will be fondly looked back upon as the good ol' days.
Why were the US Marshalls involved??
 @Civ They operate a Fugitive Task Force that local agencies can call upon for assistance in tracking down fugitives such as Hogan. The Clackamas County SO asked for their help yesterday . . .
It's a shame he didn't resist...
Got to love the MAX. Basically a free transportation system for every thug, criminal and street kid who wants a free ride. They need to put up gates and fences. It's a joke.
 @JohnQ.Public I'm missing the sarcasm, because law enforcement (including the U.S. Marshal Service) actually DID get the cowardly spouse and mother-shooter off the street before Hogan hurt anyone else.
@Chase @JohnQ.Public & They did a fantastic job! I believe the sarcasm was to why he was out on the streets in the first place. But that is irrelevant as you can't change time. I'm just glad that they were able to swiftly apprehend him without harm or damage to anyone or anything else.
Thank you law enforcement!
 @CRB  @Chase It's relevant in the sense that the system is ineffective at rehabilitating violent repeat offenders like this guy, and it fails to keep them off the streets so innocent people continue to get hurt or killed.Â
Â
Sad since these tragedies could potentially be avoided.Â
Nice to see our justice system hard at work protecting the public by keeping violent people like this off the street <sarcasm>.
The trains are running slow due to the heat and it took all night to get to Beaverton.
I wonder if Mr. Hogan bothered to pay for his transit fare. Â ;)The Marshalls must have been monitoring MAX camera security, or a Tri-Met officer spotted him.
I'm sure Mary Feltch would say it's just another "coincidence" that all these criminals end up on Trimet property, and use it to get around.
 @molotovmouse I know! If we could just end all public transportation, then we wouldn't have any crime!
Â
Oh, and close all the supermarkets. Because all of these criminals, I mean 100%, have gotten food from a supermarket.
 @Speedster  @molotovmouseÂ
The ease of movement and the lack of oversight make Max a far more disproportionate method for criminals to move about and conduct business than any other mass transit form in the US.
Â
On most other systems, and certainly on the best (Like Tokyo) you need to have at least a ticker before you can get on the platform. Then your ticket gets you a ride where you need to go.
Â
Max and the broken (literally) ticket system we have allows far more opportunity for abuse and misuse. Those factors mean people who can avoid the system. Thus effectively leaving it to the criminal element .
Â
Secure platforms with actual security, turnstiles and pass/ticket requirement alone could cut down on a huge portion of the crime trains issues.
Â
But Tri-Met wants new art and their own bridge, so we won't see any of those things.
 @Repoman I agree completely.  MAX needs to add secure turnstiles (wherever possible) to restrict access to paying customers like they do in NYC and London.  They also need to get rid of the incredibly stupid Streetcar line and replace it with double decker London style buses for the tourists.
 @Speedster  @molotovmouse I just realized that if we close all banks, there wouldn't be any bank robbers.
Although this article doesn't give credit to the U.S. Marshals Service . . . it was their capture . . .
"Itâs not immediately clear what led them to the Beaverton Transit Center on Tuesday morning."
Â
Maybe because it's where the Max is and they thought where the Max is, is where the criminal would be?
 @Repoman Obviously! Because you never hear of a criminal driving a vehicle!
 @randolaÂ
Duh of course they do,
Â
To the Max station!
Â
BOOM!
 @Repoman HA! Nice!
