Drive sober or get pulled over: Police add patrols for holiday weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. –Drive sober or get pulled over.  That’s the message Portland Police is trying to convey to drivers this summer.

Police have added extra patrols this week all over Portland for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.  Officers will be looking for people driving under the influence.

According to police, the Fourth of July is one of the deadliest holidays of the year because of drunken-driving crashes.

According to data from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 780 people lost their lives in crashes involving drivers with a BAC of .08 or more between 2007 and 2011 on July 4th.

Officers want everyone to remember that buzzed driving is drunken driving.

If you see a suspected drunken driver, call 911 and make a report.
