PORTLAND, Ore. – A driver crashed her car into a Southeast Portland Taco Bell early Sunday morning before running away on foot, witnesses said.
Police said the driver, 23-year-old Samantha Jane Riley, was later arrested. She faces charges including DUII, felony hit and run, assault and reckless driving.
Riley's car crashed through a fence and hit two vehicles in the drive-thru line before slamming into the building, police said. A Taco Bell employee was burned by cooking oil that spilled after the crash, the manager told KATU.
Nikita Morgan, whose car was hit in the crash, tried to chase Riley down after the crash.
“I didn’t see anyone actually get out of their cars. It was all like smoke and dust everywhere but I chased the people down the street trying to get them to stay on the phone with 911,” said Morgan.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m. at the restaurant near Southeast 126th and Division.
"The guy that was with her was trying to like calm her down, trying to get her to stay, and she was like 'I'm not going to jail' and kept hitting him, pushing him away," Morgan said.
