WILSONVILLE, Ore. – A man was killed Friday in a single-car crash on Interstate 5 about three miles south of Wilsonville, Oregon State Police said.

State police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said for an unknown reason, the driver went off the right shoulder of the northbound lane and drove for 200 feet in grass before smashing into a tree head-on.

Dallas' Emuel James Smother, 48, died at the scene.

The inside of the car caught fire, Hastings said.

The crash happened just before noon.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and Hastings said there are still traffic delays at the scene.
