Driver faces DUII, hit-and-run charges after crash with scooter driver
PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a Portland man who they said was driving under the influence when he crashed his SUV into a woman driving a scooter and drove away Tuesday night.
The hit-and-run crash happened at Southeast 17th Avenue and Holgate Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m., police said.
The victim, 28-year-old Thanh Nguyen Tran, was conscious but not very responsive when police arrived. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses told police the suspect drove away in a silver Honda CRV.
Five minutes after the initial crash call, police said responding officers found the suspect’s SUV crashed into the Darigold property at the corner of Southeast Woodward Street and McLoughlin Boulevard.
Police arrested the driver, J. Barclay Zimmerli, and took him to the Multnomah County Jail.
He faces charges of DUII, assault, reckless driving and failure to perform duties of a driver.
