Driver shot after saying 'no' to men trolling for drugs
PORTLAND, Ore. - A stolen pair of shoes and a failed attempt to buy some drugs at a convenience store led to a shooting in Northeast Portland early Thursday morning.
The crime happened around 3:20 a.m. at Northeast 82nd and Sandy Boulevard.
Officers were called there on a report of multiple shots that had been fired in the area. When police arrived, two men told them they had been robbed at gunpoint by two suspects. One of the victims' shoes were taken.
While police were looking into what happened, they learned that someone had also been shot nearby.
The same two suspects reportedly approached three people at a 7-Eleven store at the corner of Northeast 82nd and Sandy Boulevard and asked to buy drugs.
All three people said no to the suspects but when one of them got into their car to leave, one of the suspects shot into the vehicle.
The driver was shot in the arm and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police are on the lookout for the suspects. The two were black males around 30 years old. The one who was armed with a handgun had a heavy build.
Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to call police.
i work grave yard and go to this store all the time. EVERY time i go there is someone selling/asking for drugs, a deal going on, a women "looking for money" the list goes on. and every time i am there i say to the clerk, you really let all this go on out here? clerk always plays dump. if i was an under cover i could get 3 or 4 bust every night!!!
People come here to rant on those who find acts like this everyday in our community being caused by blacks. I have lived in East county for over 50 years and I remember never seeing any problems like this because they were kinda herded up in to North Portland where they only gave their own area a bad name. Now they have infested East County and have turned it into a slum. Everywhere they go. give each one of the 2 million dollars and they would still be broke and robbing within 6 months.
If you wanna sell drugs that's fine, but don't get mad when people won't buy your product. If you're a good businessman you shouldn't have to resort to stuff like this.
@PDXguy23 I got the impression that they were LOOKING to BUY drugs. Not sell.
All they had to do was move down to the next 7-11, and everything would have been hunky-dory. Instead, they started shooting at somebody's car because they didn't get any dope. Now THAT'S someone who's jonesing just a bit too much to be let out of their kennel!
Nothing good happens after 10pm anyway.
Unfortunately things will probably get worse in this area before they get better, if ever. The most simple solution for any individual that feels the area too dangerous is to pack up and move. I did that when I left L.A. in 1975
for Portland, my personal heaven on earth. Now, it looks like a smaller town may be my next refuge.
Â
@Older than dirt It's probably not any worse than ever before.  I  have personally been held up at gunpoint twice on 82nd Ave. between Division and Halsey working jobs in college back in the 1980's.  That part of town has never been an attractor for the desirable element.
You can't keep escaping to a smaller town. Keep your integrity and stand up, fight them, and take back your community! Stay safe doing it by not doing it alone!Â
I admire your spirt jpk. But since I am truely older than dirt my battles are long gone.
Good luck. I'm jumping ship for Idaho after the holidays. Oregon is starting to remind
me too much of L.A. in the 1970's. Things only got worse there too.
@Older than dirt .....that's absolutely accurate, older. L.A. Had weak city leadership contributed to the problem
How did I know "Black men" were going to be involved?
@Hacker_i33 How did you know the color of the people? Probably because you're a racist and a hater. Oh, and I forgot, ignorant lolÂ
@The Voice of Reason ....try reading a little closer......two black males 30's
@Hacker_i33 there is a story of a hipster who robbed 2 banks in ne too
@Hacker_i33 the Klan hood in your closet? There's another story about a white business executive trying to blow up his family, like that pile of human excrement Randy Engalls in Dundee who murdered his family on the 4th of July. My student was stabbed in the neck in Clackamas by three white tweakers trying to rob his home last week and you didn't even hear about it on the news even though one of them is still in ICU.
Â
you hear that... 82nd sandy... any suicidal vigilantes with a gun need to start hanging out in this area in the wee hours. just drive and if anyone approaches you, shoot them, ask quetions later.
Â
weird, normally that's such a lovely part of town. that is if you like hookers, addicts, and bad drivers, etc
@Phuzz Hookers and addicts and bad drivers OH MY. Sick-um Todo!
I have a very strong suspicion that there is a gang that moved into that area. Over the past 6 months it has gotten a lot worse. So bad that we have moved from that part of town in September.  Not only is it up to Police, but us as well. Keep your eyes open for suspicious people, call the police even if you aren't sure they are up to something. This is OUR city and WE need to take it back together. If we ALL start doing this, a lot of this crime will naturally linger away. Silence equals agreement people. What are you doing to make your neighborhood safer?
@PDXBEAR it's gotten way worse and it's probably more likely that gangS have moved there... But, really. When was 82nd/Sandy ever a good part of town?
@Playanekes  @PDXBEAR Not in my life.  Read my reply above.Â

Wow....so much for "Just say No!"
North East. Black crime, black drugs, black shootings and black gangs.
And the Albina Ministries are doing what?
Praying? And not going out after dark?
@Rob C 503 Staying away so they arn't mugged, raped or shot
@Rob C 503 They are doing absolutely nothing.  And they won't, until they can blame another race for their problems.  That'll get Jesse or Reverend Al on a plane....
Behind every stereotype, there is an ounce of truth.
@Sweetpea like saying white guys murder their wives and children.
How sad. Â We need to do more to help those who live in NE. Â

Crack is whack!
Fine, then if approached by drug dealers we should shoot and kill when asked if we want them or not.
@lee986321 it's your life and your freedom you're throwing away of you shoot an unarmed individual.
NE- explains it all. Isnt it time the city cleans up this trash!!
@LostSoul Sam's priorities are bike paths and underage bathroom parties. Please don't be ridiculous and expect him to do something the city REALLY needs.
@LostSoul Right... that never happens in Salem or Eugene, and people in Aloha don't have drug problems... it's all NE PDX.
@Playanekes  @LostSoul It happens in every city in the country, in most of the world.  It just happens lots, lots more often in NE.
@Playanekes yeah there are alot of bad areas in portland. My point is it would be nice if something could be done about it. I have not nor ever will live in that area. Nor would I ever raise my children there.
@'CouvGuy @LostSoul you guys are all making good points but as a native of east Multnomah County I can tell you that 82nd was NEVER a nice community. My uncle was butchered their by a white knife-wielding stranger back in 1982, when it wasn't terribly uncommon to find dead or dying women in the alley or dumpsters behind the Buzzard's Roost on 82nd/Foster.
Thats where the majority of it is. Thats undeniable.!
@Playanekes yep thats exactly what I said.
@LostSoul I'm not sure to what you're referring, but... I may be an "intense debater" and all, but I don't disagree with you enough here to make much of a debate out of it. I have no desire to live in that area because it has been sketchy for as long as I can remember.
@Playanekes @LostSoul Salem and Eugene have their own police forces. Nothing Portland Police can do about those and nothing Salem and Eugene (and even Aloha) can do about Portland so I am not really seeing the relevance of those other cities when the topic is crime in NE Portland. What, because other cities have crime, people shouldn't want the most criminal parts of their own city cleaned up?
@LostSoul the police consider motorcycle gangs such as the Gypsy Jokers drug gangs too, so, yeah. It would probably take the National Guard but I'm not knocking' the idea!
@Portlander29 because the OP makes it sound like this kind of crime only happens in NE. Gee, they don't have drug crimes in SE, downtown, or SW?
@Portlander29 I say its time to break up all the gangs in the area. Bring in the national guard. It was done once before
 @Playanekes  @LostSoul You forgot Gresham.
@Playanekes  @Spiffy  @LostSoul This never happens in Salmon Creek, WA :D Then again people are more civil across the bridge. Lol.
 @Spiffy  @LostSoul I've lived in Gresham for 12 years now and haven't witnesses a drug-related crime. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I suppose.
@LostSoul what might be a solution to addiction?
Â
@Kelly Brodigan dont sympathize with these losers because they have an "addiction". they made their own choices. The citizens of that neighborhood deserve to live in peace. the city needs to take back that part of town
@Kelly Brodigan @LostSoul Letting the cops do their job without parading Jessie and Al everytime what must be done, is done.Â
