Two hurt in dump truck crash on I-5

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Interstate 5 northbound was closed near Rice Hill Saturday morning after a dump truck towing a backhoe crashed into a tree, state police said.
The truck's driver, Alan Iverson, 30, from Kelso, was driven to a local hospital with injuries from the crash. His passenger, Douglas White, 61, of North Bend, was flown to the hospital by a helicopter with serious injuries.
Officials said that Iverson was driving the dump truck downhill when he went off the road at around 10:15 a.m. and hit a tree just south of the Rice Hill exit (milepost 148).
Police said the truck flipped around the tree to face the opposite direction, coming to a stop on the side of the road.
The loaded trailer disconnected from the truck and skidded to a stop in the northbound lanes. Officials said that some cars in the southbound lanes crashed into each other while steering away from the loose trailer, expecting it to hop the cement median.
Several gallons of diesel spilled from a ruptured fuel tank and spread across the northbound lanes. The Oregon department of transportation said they closed down the slick area of roadway until crews could clean the fuel from the highway's surface.
Both men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. State police investigators are still looking into what caused Iverson to drive off the road.
go to www.dangeroustrailers.org and know that Ray LaHood and Donald Karol of the NTSB does not care that the trailer is in VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW. When the trailer came loose it needed to have a breaking system to stop the trailer from become a FLYING MISSLE.Â
Well, glad no one was killed. There went his CDL.Â
@washcomom this depends on the investigation and what caused the accident.  Not necessarily that he will lose his licence but the next company will think twice about hiring him for having a blemished record.
@washcomom Why will he lose his CDL?  If you crash your car, do you lose your license?
I hope the tree is okay. After all, this IS Oregon! Â
Perhaps Tre Arrow was in that tree? (figured I'd beat the rush to mention that name)
"The truck's driver, Alan Iverson..." is this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_Iverson
After basketball ends, a guy needs another profession to fall back on......the ambassador to Korea position was already filled.
