Eat at Pete's: 'Help us stay open'
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg business is pleading with the public for patronage, and it seems to be working.
The sign out front says it all: 'Help us stay open, please eat here!'
Pete's Drive-In has been a Roseburg staple for decades.
But, lately, business has been slow.
Employees came up with the idea for the sign, but owner Chuck Caskey didn't like the idea. "They asked me for about two weeks solid and I said, "No" every time," said Chuck. "So, when they put it up, they said 'we're not going to listen to you,' and they put it up there anyway."
Chuck says he's glad they didn't listen to him.
The sign has only been up for a few days, but it's been working.
The parking lot has been packed pretty much non-stop since the sign went up, and customers KPIC News spoke with said they came in because they wanted to help.
Chuck says it's humbling to see how many people care about keeping his business afloat.
A Facebook group for Pete's started just a few days ago and already has over 600 followers.
Organizers are asking people to stop by Pete's this Saturday to help the old business stay up and running.
If Pete wants business, he better start advertising.
Awe ,just another "sign" of our destroyed ecconomy and the downward spiral.
We been eating at a local Business, straying away from all the fast food junk..I love the Elk burgers, Turkey Burgers, buffalo burgers and Beffalow burgers that our local restaurant serves..
So what's the signature dish, Pete-za?
Shopping at a local eatery, 70% of their sales stay in the community. Eating at a National franchise only 30% stays in the community.

Oh my God. When I first read the headline, I thought it was Pete's Fish & Chips.
I hope that's still open.
@Kushfan The one at 27th and Van Buren burned a couple of months back. It just reopened on Wednesday. I love the double monster burger w/cheese and jalapenos
@Kushfan I love Pete's Fish and Chips. Yes many stores are still open. The one at 44th Street and Indian School even got an "A" on their health dept score.
I worked at Bill Johnson's Big Apple on Van Buren too.
@beernpizza Last I saw, Chase wanted to pull a Romney and sell them out.
@WendyTeagarden Wen, I don't know if you saw it but they submitted a plan to come out of BK and have Chase paid off by I believe April '14. A valley icon, it would be sad to see them close.

I used to work at that Pete's in high school.
@Kushfan l lived across from Arcadia and ate at that Pete's all the time.
Now that's just cool! Kudos to the residents of Roseburg for stopping in for a bite and helping a struggling business.Â
