'Extreme' clutter hampers effort to battle house fire
Firefighters battle a fire in North Portland Tuesday night that they say was hampered by an "extreme" amount of clutter inside.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Firefighters say a large amount of clutter kept them from effectively battling a house fire in North Portland on Tuesday night.

The fire broke out at a home in the 7000 block of Wabash Avenue.

Portland Fire Bureau spokesman Lt. Rich Chatman said in a news release that firefighters had troubling accessing the home and difficulty fighting the fire mainly because of the "extreme amount of clutter" in the home.

Chatman said firefighters are working to remove the clutter from the burned areas before investigators can get into the home to figure out what caused the fire.
