FBI: Man with rifle orders bank employees to the ground
PORTLAND, Ore. – A masked man armed with a rifle robbed an Umpqua Bank branch near Southwest Portland on Thursday afternoon.
According to FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele, the armed man walked into the bank near the intersection of Barnes and Miller Roads around 10:30 a.m. carrying what appeared to be a rifle. He pointed the weapon at three employees and ordered them to the ground, Steele said.
A few minutes later the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a dark-colored four-door car.
Witnesses said the suspect was around 5 feet 9 inches tall and of medium build. He was wearing a white mask, goggles, a dark hooded sweatshirt and light-colored jeans.
Steele said the robbery is similar to one that happened at a nearby Chase Bank branch in October. FBI agents and Washington County sheriff’s deputies are trying to figure out if the two are related.
Sheriff’s deputies are working the case because the bank is located in an unincorporated part of Washington County not far from the Portland city line.

Don't understand why these morons use a weapon on a bank robbery. they get an extra 5 to 15 years just for the weapon when a note to the teller will get you the cash for less time in jail.
What a frightening experience for the bank employees and it's patrons. I hope the authorities are able to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect. Thank goodness no one was killed.
 @DeaconBugg my neighbor worked at a bank for a year and quit after it was robbed twice during that year.

Not sure yet the coat looks to be so, likely made of polyester blend, large with hood option, value village brand etc etc etc. Made in China. Need more details, ask his parole officer...
If folks actually believe this type of behavior is not going to be more prevalent in the PDX Area, you have obviously not been paying attention and live in a world that only exists in your mind and on TV. This type of behavior is all over National News and since we 'molly-coddle' gangs, the Mehican Drug Cartels are here to stay - just wait...

I can't tell from the photos what weapon he's carrying but it has a tactical scope and a collapsing stock, and I would almost bet money that it's an airsoft rifle. He looks like he robbed a paintball store. Somebody should have blasted him all the same.

Pretty smart location if one were to choose to rob a bank. Â Easy to disappear up into the nearby hills.
Surprisingly poor-quality video for a bank. Even with a mask and all, this guy might have been recognized by someone by the way he moves or by the specific clothes he was wearing..

I didnt think there was Any money left in any bank after he gave it to offshore banks and his personal interest groups.
