GRESHAM, Ore. - This one has a happy ending.

A 13-year-old boy who had been missing since Tuesday turned up safe on Sunday night – in Montana.

It turns out Jonathan Marshall King hitchhiked to Great Falls to be with his 14-year-old sister, who was staying with a cousin.

The sister said she didn’t know King was coming, although he had confided he planned to run away.

The boy’s mother, Cherry King, still hadn’t talked to her son when she got word he was safe Sunday night.

“I'm happy, I'm so happy he's okay. I was so worried about him,” she said. “We haven't talked to him yet. They put him in holding so they can make sure he stays where he's at until we come and get him.”

King’s parents called police on Tuesday when they found out he hadn’t turned up at Gordon Russell Middle School.

His parents said that he hung around with a bad crowd several months ago, but that changed recently. His mother said that although at first they thought he ran away, they became less sure as time wore on.

They spent much of Saturday posting fliers in Portland and Gresham looking for help in finding him.
