PORTLAND, Ore. – A fatal accident early Tuesday morning shut down S.W. Barbur Blvd.
The single-car crash happened around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection with S.W. 30th.
Traffic was closed for several hours in both directions before the car was towed away around 6 a.m. Crews then re-opened every lane except the right-hand northbound lane, and eventually got all lanes open in time for the heaviest part of the morning commute.
The victim was identified as 27-year-old Quinn Stephen Sivage. He was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius.
Witnesses said sparks were flying as the car traveled between 80 and 100 mph, swerving and hitting the curb before it finally ran into a raised median, went across the northbound lane, through a bus shelter and eventually into an SUV and a U-Haul parked in the lot of a transmission shop.
Police said the driver was dead when they arrived, and they didnt' know if alcohol or drugs were involved. Nobody else was hurt.
