NEAR FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Firefighters said they had to cut two people from their vehicles Thursday morning after a head-on crash on Highway 47 on the outskirts of Forest Grove.
Oregon State Police, Forest Grove Police and Forest Grove firefighters responded to the crash scene at about 7:15 a.m. The highway was closed while crews worked at the scene.
According to Twitter posts by Forest Grove Fire, two people, one in each car, had to be cut from the vehicles. Police said a third person was not seriously hurt.
Both injured victims were taken to a trauma center in Portland, Forest Grove Police said. Their names and conditions have not been released.
The cars involved included a 1995 Honda 4-door sedan and a 2004 Ford Focus 4-door sedan. Both were heavily damaged.
The crash took place near Porter Road just north of Forest Grove, according to firefighters. Police said the Ford Focus was northbound on the highway when it went out of control and slid into the path of the Honda.
It is not yet known what may have caused the collision and an investigation is under way. Police said no citations have been issued.
That looks like a horrific crash, I hope everyone comes out of this okay.
That's a scary sight! It's amazing, as Ralph said, what new technology brings to keeping people safer in car crashes.Â
What is interesting in the photos is that the passenger compartments are relatively intact. The crumple zones around the vehicle did their job and protected the passengers as well as expected.
Â
The reason the top was cut off and the doors removed was because the occupants could not be accessed by normal means.
Â
Modern technology does a pretty good job at keeping us safer.
 @RalphCramden Sometimes I wonder, if it keeps us too safe.
"It is not yet known what may have caused the collision."
Â
My guess would be violation of the Pauli exclusion principle.
 @RalphCramden I would say that seems a safe conclusion to draw.
@ralphcramden Are you trying to insinuate that no two objects can occupy the same place at one time?
 @scared_citizen Â
Okay, okay. I will just come out and say it. No more beating around the bush. Two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
Â
You happy now?....8-}
 @RalphCramden My mom was in the Red civic. Info I was given says the other car crossed over the center lane and hit my Mom head on.
 @BlessedMommy I'm so sorry that your mom got hurt. I hope she has a speedy and great recovery.
I'm also glad that she was in a Honda. Those cars are pretty amazing when it comes to crashes.Â
God speed!
 @BlessedMommyÂ
That would certainly make sense form the position of the vehicles.
Â
I hope your mother does well and walks out of the hospital with no long lasting injuries. My guess is that at the very least she will be very sore for a while.
 @BlessedMommy  @RalphCramden I can't even imagine how seeing this must make you feel!  Your Mom is being taken care of.  You get left to help pick up the pieces.  I wish your Mom a speedy recovery and you a bit of time for yourself as you help your family heal.
 @RalphCramden Thank you. I am still waiting for more info. I hope to see her soon!
That's not gonna buff out.
Is the red one a Mercedes? After they cut the top off, it's hard to tell.
 @JerkyBob it is a honda civic. it is my Mom's car.
 @BlessedMommy HARSH!  Wow I hope your Mom is okay.  Judging from the pics it looks like the passenger compartment stood up well.Â
@JerkyBob yup, was now scrap
 @Tonk  @JerkyBob looks like a '92+ honda civic red 4dr and a ford focus sedan.

"Both cars were heavily damaged." That would be an understatement. Hope the injured recover, it's hard to imagine surviving that.
 @medborgare My Mom ( was in the red civic) is still okay. Don't know all details but she has a broken arm, broken, leg and chest pain.
Â
 @BlessedMommy Best wishes to your mom. Sounds like she was very fortunate.
" . . . at least one person was hurt and two people, one in each car, had to be cut from their vehicles." Judging by the look of those vehicles, especially the red one, I would guess that at least three people were injured in some way. It's hard to imagine anyone in the red vehicle even surviving, but I hope I'm wrong.
 @felines99 My mom was in the red civic. At this point she is okay. we know she has a broken leg, broken arm and chest pain I don't know if there is anything else I'm still waiting to hear more. God was really protecting her!

 @BlessedMommy How is your mom doing now, 6 days later? I've been trying to get more information about that accident. Could you please call me at 503-357-3181?   --Jill Smith, Forest Grove News Times
 @BlessedMommy I hope that she fully recovers, BlessedMommy.
