CORNELIUS, Ore. – A fire destroyed a home Thursday afternoon just south of the main part of Cornelius and about five miles from the city limits of Forest Grove.

No one was injured and two dogs were rescued, according to Forest Grove firefighters.

The fire started at about 2:10 p.m. at 7495 S.W. Hergert, according to firefighters. Flames still engulfed the house at 3 p.m. Firefighters said they had trouble getting water to the home.

The smoke from the fire could be seen from 20 miles away from Chopper 2.

Cornelius firefighters said it took crews about 45 minutes to put out most of the flames.

A cause for the fire has not yet been determined, but firefighters believe it started on a deck outside.

The house is considered a total loss. Firefighters estimated the damage at $325,000.
