Fire burned four cars and trucks at Sharp Automotive on 88th and Stark Tuesday night. Firefighters are investigating to determine the cause of the fire.

PORTLAND, Ore. – A combination of four cars and trucks were damaged by fire Tuesday night at a Southeast Portland auto shop and firefighters are investigating the cause.

Wednesday morning, Lt. Robert King with Portland Police said investigators had made an arrest in the case and identified Dustin Eugene Hall, 31, as the suspect in custody.

King said Hall was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center but did not specify any charges.

The fire shot flames up inside the gate of Sharp Automotive on SE 88th and Stark Street. Firefighters said they were concerned the blaze would damage the building but it didn't. They said one car was on fire and that it spread to three others.

Witnesses described hearing tires pop as the flame roared.

"It was a little loud," said Amanda Ferrel. "The first one scared us, and we almost started to run away. But no, they said it was just the tires so we stayed."

The auto shop owner ran toward the scene. The business does have surveillance cameras but the owner wasn't sure if they caught anything. The shop owner said it's the third recent incident at the shop.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
