Firefighters knock down flames at Vanc. apartment complex

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Residents of an apartment complex in Vancouver escaped a fire late Wednesday night without injury, firefighters said.

Crews responded to reports of a fire just after midnight at the Willowbrook Apartments on NE 51st Street and arrived to find flames and smoke pouring from the window of one unit.

All the residents, including Ofelia Garcia, were able to get out of the building. Firefighters said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

"it was pretty big,” Garcia said. “It was going outside the window, the glass started popping and, like, everyone had to leave."

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate has been released.
