Food carts returning to City Hall courtyard

PORTLAND, Ore. – Mayor Charlie Hales was scheduled to announce on Tuesday the return of food carts to the City Hall courtyard.

The city first invited the carts to come back in July, after police cleared out homeless campers in the area. One cart returned, but the owner said his workers were harassed by campers and activists angry about the ban on camping. That cart left in August.

The mayor will announce at the press conference, set for noon, that three carts will return to the courtyard as part of an effort to make the area a lively civic space.
