Denise Keesee reads a statement in court Monday, April 21, 2014. She said her punishment "has been the loss of my career, extreme embarrassment and shame for my actions."

SHERWOOD, Ore. – A former Sherwood High School teacher will spend a month in prison for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old male student.

Denise Keesee, 38, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation Monday. Keesee will also have to register as a sex offender and will not be able to have any contact with adolescents.

A different student is filing a lawsuit against Keesee and the Sherwood School District for another alleged incident involving Keesee.

She was put on leave in November 2012 after deputies told the school district she was being investigated for alleged contact with more than one student.

Deputies said those incidents occurred between 2006 and 2012.

Keesee's husband worked at the Sherwood Police Department as the Sherwood High School resource officer. He is not connected to the investigation and has not been charged with any crime.
