Former teacher cuts off ankle bracelet, on the run for second time
PORTLAND, Ore. – A former Beaverton middle school teacher convicted of possessing child pornography is on the run even though he was found guilty.
The U.S. attorney says Logan Storm had hundreds of pornographic images and videos of toddlers and young girls on his computer equipment.
The judge let Storm go free until his sentencing in April even though he had taken off once before to Europe.
Storm was living with his parents in Southeast Portland in the house where he grew up. The house was also where Storm was supposed to be after federal Judge Ancer Haggerty decided he could go free until sentencing if he wore an electronic tracking device on his ankle.
But on Tuesday, hours after he was found guilty of possessing child pornography, authorities found Storm’s ankle bracelet at Lewis and Clark Park in Troutdale. He had cut it off.
U.S. Marshals said Saturday that they have reason to believe that someone is helping Storm hide from authorities.
U.S. Attorney Amanda Marshall is frustrated the judge didn't keep Storm locked up, considering he took off right after detectives initially searched his computer three years ago.
"Within 24 hours of serving that search warrant Mr. Storm left the country, drove to Canada and boarded a plane where he flew to Heathrow Airport in London," she said. "He then next spent approximately the next nine months in several different Western European countries, eventually was persuaded to return to the United States."
And it's Storm's cooperation since his return that convinced Haggerty he wasn't a flight risk again.
KATU News contacted the judge about his decision but has not heard back.
U.S. Marshalls are asking the public to be on the lookout for one of the following two vehicles that Storm may be driving:
- A green Ford F-150 with Oregon license plate 726-CKA.
- A silver VW Jetta wagon with Oregon license plate 931-DVE (photo at right).
The U.S. Marshals Service says Storm does not have his passport.
But he has had several different names in the past. Prosecutors say he may also face charges of child sex abuse. They believe he molested two children in his past.
Anyone who sees one of the vehicles or has any information about Storm is asked to call the U.S. Marshals at 503-326-2209.
Round up a Posse boys lets go make some justice cowboy style!!!!
@Common Sence Gang Nam Style!!!!
Some people are too trusting to be a Judge. Â If this guy was a pawnbroker he would be bankrupt. Â These Judges need to be graded on their decision making. Â It should be near impossible for a child molester to get released on bail.
So this brings in to question the whole term ...Your Honor...Â
Because apparently there was No honor in what the judge did..
Maybe he's just an honorary Your Honor.
WOW!! Our justice system is fantastic - This guy is running around but no bail for the pot smoker - I would off this guy if I owned an assault rifle. Please - someone do us a favor
@tornado78Â Oh yeah, sure I could see the headlines now! PLEASE use a baseball bat!
The judge should be hung up for allowing this guy out, he was already a flight risk. Dumb!!
Is this now twice convicted pervert being assisted by friends of his and/or family. Co-workers at his former school? Unconscionable to imagine - as the police are now suggesting - that there are accomplices assisting him....Â
Â
And now we learn that he is facing full out investigation and potential arrest for the additional crimes of child rape?Â
Â
First of all parents of this train wreck - what were you thinking - after he had already fled the country - you were stupid enough to take him in? Reckless enough to house him - knowing how reckless and felony enjoining he is?Â
Â
Unfathomable negligence to allow him to be housed outside of prison walls in the first place. I hope all of those assisting this creep today - lose sleep - because he is engaging in additional criminal actions today - and you all reasonably know so. Sickening.Â
He should have cut something else off when he cut off the bracelet.
Hopefully his next target ends up making this perv KIA
Creeps like this are the reason all Americans should be required to own and be trained to operated semi-automatic weapons.
Well, Mr Storm, if you are in possesion of sexual imiges of toddlers, than you are a very sick man. Worst than that, you are not the only one psychopath like that. Your clients helped you moving arround the world and they are helping you now? Correct ? Too bad , the judge didn't ask questions, not even to himself. If I'd be judge, I would ask one question first. How, Mr Storm, you were supporting yourself while on the run?Â
So Safeway security could put GPS devices on shoplifters cars but the cops couldn't put them on these cars? Due process is key to our system but this is crazy!
This type of screw-up would end if the judge and parole board were made responsible for the bad guy. If he reoffends or skips, the judge AND board would stand trial along with him. Suddenly, death penelty and life without parole would become the common sentence.
What in Hell is going on ? We complain of sex offenders and there teaching Kids, Remind me to check on our son's teachers and history before he sees them..this is irritating as hell, whey on Earth the Double Standards, Don't any one have a Brain one anymore?
Whenever my law school professor and I disagreed in class about issues, he would always pull out the but consider "public policy" excuse. I could never argue him down from what public policy requires and what I considered common sense. I did not continue in law school, but left in my second year and stayed in law enforcement where at least there is some satisfaction in arresting bad guys, even if the courts turn them loose. I feel quite content in that I made arrests based on probable cause resulting from my investigations. I never felt bad about having those I arrested eventually get free. Law enforcement cannot be judge, jury and executioner. All we could do was get the perpetrator in front of jury of his peers and out job was done. Still, common sense apparently is not a prerequisite for judges apparently!  Â
This judge needs to be re-immersed into the real world! Actually he probably will get bumped up to an appellate position so he can continue his ivory tower pronouncements!
Having been convicted, why was he allowed to remain free? Sounds almost like conspiracy to escape by the judge allowing him to remain free. What did the judge expect? That he would stick around to be sentence and put in prison? What do judges imbibe or inhale sometimes, to come up with these idiotic pronouncements and decisions? Not to mention, that he absconded during the investigation. Now we taxpayers have to spend more money trying to locate him. Perhaps the judge could be held responsible for the cost of retrieving the suspect?
Perhaps federal Judge Ancer Haggerty should be made to step in and fill Storm's place in jail until he's found. Maybe then these judges might finally get it through their pointy little heads to quit letting these pathetic excuses for human beings out...ever!
You know this peso is probably sleeping with Samantha Adams
@Laughing at Liberals No, we don't know that.
But you seem awfully enlightened on that subject.
Fill us in.
A parent at my child's school saw him lurking their parking lots and neighboring businesses on Thursday and called the police but he was gone before they could get to him.  Next week the school is beefing up security until he is caught. Â
@Tragor Too bad concealed weapons can't be used in this case. Not naming the school - whereabouts was this?Â
 @washcomom  @Tragor Fairview
Way to go judge, couldn't see this one coming. Too bad those bracelets don't detonate upon unauthorized removal. Â Has this p.o.s. been apprehended yet?
@Lia Not that I know of.  He was seen at my child's school lurking around their parking lot and neighboring businesses sometime on Thursday.  By the time the authorities were called he was gone.
"...eventually was persuaded to return to the United States..."
Â
Do you think we'll be able to persuade him to come back again and serve his sentance?
Â
Judge Haggerty has some poor reasoning skills. Does this judge happen to have a friend who is going to profit from this criminals flight? Or perhaps an enemy that will be harmed by the criminal's flight?
I mean there has to be some explanation why a Judge would release a convicted person who has already been proven to be a flight risk...
"Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me."
@TransplantedTexan Exactly...why on earth was this guy not in a cell waiting for trial.
Mr. Storm ,
Â
Dont be coming around my neighborhood ..
Hopefully someone with the same convictions as I will find this guy. then there will be no need for the expense of jail, attorneys or any of the other legal expenses incurred. How much does it cost to incinerate a body today?
@Roy LeBlanc That depends on whether you go in for the deluxe package with smors and marshmallows thrown in, or opt for the soak 'em overnight in gasoline and ignite 'em economy package. :-P
I'm thinking no more short leashes for this dog; straight to the kennel.
@Icarus That's an insult to dogs, Icarus.
"The judge let Storm go free until his sentencing in April even though he had taken off once before to Europe."
Â
That judge needs to be convicted of contempt of common sense. Actually, an ambulence chaser needs to contact the victim's families and sue the crap out of that judge.
@Peregrine A judge with common sense? Show me!  I don't believe it.
I don't usually comment on writing but...
Â
"Â is on the run even though he was found guilty"...because otherwise he is not guilty, and would not be on the run.
Â
people like this are worse than illegals and molestering cub scout priests.
 @Benjamin Schniffle "people like this..."
You mean the pedophiles of the people who write poorly? :-P
Â
Â
"There is no shame in being poor, only dressing poorly!
-- Bunny Wigglesworth in Zorro, the Gay Blade
"The house was also where Storm was supposed to be after federal Judge Ancer Haggerty decided he could go free until sentencing if he wore an electronic tracking device on his ankle."
Â
Haggerty let him go after he ran off to London for 9 months after first being charged? If he would run prior to a trial he sure as heck would run after being found guilty and awaiting sentencing. Sex offenders have the worst time of anyone in prison. Did Haggerty think this pervert was going to take it like a man? Haggerty should be locked up until they find this predatory sex offender.
Â
No doubt he will try to get into a country where there is no extradition treaty, or someplace like Thailand where child sex abuse is rampant.
@I812 Yep that idiot judge should be in the unemployment line for that stunt.
Lest we forget, it was the defense attorney who ARGUED that his client was NOT a flight risk since he surrendered his passport and based on that, the judge agreed. Personally, I think that all of the expenses incurred for finding Storm should be charged against the defense attorney. After all, he vouched for him so let him pay for it.
Â
Last but not least, anyone know if Storm's father was charged for the last incident? It appears that the father drove him to Canada where he got on the plane and flew to England. His father committed a crime by taking him out of the country. If he hasn't been charged, he should be!
Yea, I'd trust a pedophile. NOT! What are they thinking.
Great decision, Mr. Judge.  This idiot has a history of taking off, but you decide to let him off the hook anyway? Love to hear the logic behind that decision. Â
Hope they find this loser before he hurts some child.Â
Reminds me of a wolf that gnaws its leg off to escape a trap.
@xilef regnu I would like to see something gnawed off this guy...
Retread?
