PORTLAND, Ore. – The scariest place in Portland may just be what lies beneath the streets downtown.

KATU's Emily Sinovic is joined by ghost hunters from SyFy Channel's series Ghost Mine, Patrick Doyle and Kim Lunman, to search the Shanghai Tunnels for the spirits some say reside there.

Michael Jones, with the Cascade Geographic Society, led the tour and maintains there is paranormal activity in the Shanghai Tunnels, which he says are haunted by ghosts of the tortured souls some believe were kidnapped, or Shanghai-ed, and sold off.

Those who believe those tunnels were used to kidnap unsuspecting victims say it started in Portland in the 19th century.
