Giant pumpkin breaks Oregon record
WOODBURN, Ore. – Weight records were shattered at the Bauman Great Pumpkin Weigh Off in Gervais, Ore. on Saturday.
Steve Daletas brought a pumpkin weighing over 1,778 pounds.
The pumpkin was the heaviest ever recorded in Oregon and one of ten in the competition that weighed over 1,400 pounds.
“Once again with the help and support of Bauman farms not only was the state record broken but the top ten overall pumpkins average weights for any site in the northwest was shattered. I hope visitors the entire month enjoy the large pumpkins you have on display,” said Daletas.
The giant pumpkin weighs more than most cars.
Growers from Canada to California took part in the competition.
The pumpkins will be on display at Bauman’s Farm and Garden in Gervais through Oct. 31.
I grew 10 pumpkins 5- 10 lbs. I am going to talk with a pumpkin farmer and see how they get them that large, I know it has to with Nitrogen mixtures and such.
