Girl, 17, seriously hurt in Highway 213 crash
NEAR CARUS, Ore. – A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash south of Carus Monday night, police said.
It happened in the intersection of South Spangler Road and Highway 213 at around 9:30 p.m.
State police said 17-year-old Anna Marl of Oregon City was stopped on Spangler Road and attempted to turn left onto the highway when her SUV was hit by a Ford Excursion.
Firefighters had to cut Marl’s SUV open to get her out. She was taken to OHSU in Portland. Police said her injuries were serious.
The driver of the Excursion, 58-year-old Teresa Gilbert of Keizer, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police said both women were wearing seat belts during the crash.
The highway was closed for about one hour during the investigation.

@Dr. Rawdog So is 99 and Southend Rd. I wish they would lower the speed limit.
Most of us have made errors while driving and are lucky nothing tragic has happened to us. Wish we all could be perfect drivers. Just be happy no one was killed. Anyone that drives that road knows how fast people are going and how hard it is to pull out on it. Prayers go out for both drivers!
Looks like her life was saved by crumple zones. I hope she recovers quickly.Â
in fairness we do not know if the woman was speeding or intoxicated. its best not to blame a teenager in an accident until the investigation is finished.
Boy, how do you not see an Excursion ..... at any rate, hope the teen has a speedy and full recovery
@kramr  I was at a four way stop on Southend Rd and Lawton. I have a white Expedition and a women forgot to stop and missed me by inches. It happens.

Teenagers should wear an airbag suit when they drive...
I love how the media always lets us know that seat belts were worn! That is the accepted lawful practice. How about letting us know the amount of fuel in the tanks, or the air pressure in the tires, etc! Perhaps, just perhaps, some distraction also was present? I hope both drivers fully recover from this crash.
@jpk Aw, jpk, you just want to see the police report, don't you? ;)  I'll bet they'd just tell you it was a work in progress!
Couldn't progress too far timewise, as the initial report has to be in for DMV and insurance purposes ASAP by end of next shift!
"was stopped on Spangler Road and attempted to turn left onto the highway when her SUV was hit by a Ford Excursion"
Ummm, shouldn't that say: "when she pulled out in front of oncoming traffic, failing to yield the right of way"?
Hope all recover.
So as an excursion driver how exactly do you miss noticing an oncoming excursion ?
@Tonk If you're texting you will not see that excursion coming at you....
@myopinion240 @Tonk That is like saying the women in the Excursion was doing 80 in a 55. (Jumping to conclusions)
It was just a bad thing to happen to all.
@myopinion240 @Tonk Wow! Jumping to conclusions! I know the young women and just to ease your mind, she was not texting.
