Gresham police: Father accidentally shoots 8-year-old son with shotgun

GRESHAM, Ore. - An 8-year-old boy successfully underwent surgery Saturday after police said he was accidentally shot by his father.

The boy's father was putting a shotgun into a gun safe when he accidentally shot his son, according to police.

Police said the boy was inside a home in the 17900 block of SE Marie Street when the shooting was reported just after 2 p.m.

Officers found the boy with a bullet wound in the abdomen.

Police on Monday said the boy was recovering faster than they expected. He is able to talk to his doctors.

The names of the family members have not been released.
