Police arrest suspect in Vancouver standoff
VANCOUVER, Wash. - A man who prompted a 5-hour standoff after barricading himself inside a home and firing a gunshot early Thursday morning in Vancouver was later found walking some distance away, Clark County Sheriff's Deputies said.
Deputies said the standoff ended at about 9:00 a.m. when the suspect, identified as Bradley Kimbal, was found walking near N.E. 33rd Street and N.E. Y Street and taken into custody by Vancouver Police.
Deputies said Kimbal was born in 1960 but they did not specify his date of birth.
Following a domestic disturbance call Thursday morning, deputies blocked off streets at about 4 a.m. near N.E. 40th Avenue and N.E. 49 Street in Vancouver after they said a person inside a home in the 4500 block of N.E. 40th Avenue would not respond to requests to come out.
A SWAT unit was called to the scene after the gunshot was fired, deputies told KATU News. Dispatchers said no hostages were involved.
Dispatchers said police used public address hails, flash-bang devices and tried calling the person in the home by phone without success.
The gunshot was fired inside the home but no one was injured, Clark County Sheriff's Deputies said in a press release. They said the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT and Hostage negotiators tried to negotiate an end to the standoff.
Neighbors who live near the scene told KATU News reporter Joe Raineri the neighborhood was typically quiet but a large number of cars were often parked outside the home where the standoff took place and it appeared that people were living in some of the cars.
