Gunman robs Clackamas hotel early Friday morning
CLACKAMAS, Ore. -- Police said a black man robbed a Clackamas hotel early Friday morning.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies said at 12:54 a.m., a lone gunman came into the Days Inn in the 9000 block of Southeast Sunnyside Road in Clackamas and demanded money from a hotel employee while armed with a gun. The victim told police he pointed the gun at the clerk.
Moments after the robbery, the man fled the scene in a white, newer compact car, witnesses told police. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies converged on the scene moments later and searched for the man, but were ultimately unable to find him.
The robbery suspect is described as:
- African American male adult
- 20-25 years of age
- 6 feet tall
- Medium build
The man was wearing a black hoody with a colorful emblem on the back.

What I am saying is that KATUÂ uses the former when black people wear them, but when white people wear them they use the latter. That they make a distinction seems just a tad racist. Charges of racism directed against some commenters on this board and calls for those commenters to be banned are laughable. Has no one else noticed that KATU routinely uses the word 'hoody' to describe the attire that black suspects wear, while a white suspect is more often than not referred to as wearing a 'hooded sweatshirt'. I would say that KATU reveals its own racist attitudes by making a difference in terminology, so banning a commenter for allegedly making racist statements would be hypocritical to say the least.
Disturbing to read this when I have relatives booked at this very same motel next week.
Politically correct or not, that is a pretty vague description. Doesn't the lobby have cameras?
With the way things are politically, socially and economically in this country --aside from the Civil Rights Movement--we are more divided than in any time in our nation's history --or so it seems anyway. It boggles the mind. So, aside from our so called military might, how then can we claim to be a superior nation in the world.? It's like the proverbial pot calling the kettle ebony.
Crimes aside, I sure get tired of this: "African American male adult". Really folks? Are you still pushing that "African" American crap? Then I certainly expect the next crime story featuring a "white" male to be expressed as a "European American".

Last boyscout wouldn't you agree that anyone born in the United States in by their very birth an American? Much of my ancestry came down from  Quebec ,  Canada. Does that make me  a Canadian-American. It is all about nationality and less about heritage. If you were born here you are an American. If your parents came here from another country, say Canada, that is your heritage not you nationality. The use of African-American, Hispanic-American, Cuban-American are merely race cards, like butter to bread.

Being "caucasion" myself, I would have to ask what would be acceptable? Seems as though the media walks on eggshells with this anyway, sometimes just describing "male" or "female" without the race, which kind of makes it hard to look for someone that "matches the description".

The person who robbed the hotel was black. I highly doubt he was from Africa. I would guess he was born here in the US.

@2012 Hope and Change I am absolutely not a fan of MAX, and yes, the crime always goes up when they build new MAX lines. But the bad guy drove away in a white compact car. Kinda hard to get one of those on MAX. But it is pretty darned easy to hop on I-205,  which is right next-door to the hotel.
Once again the description of the suspect is not surprising.

As a percentage of population blacks are more likely to commit violent crimes that whites. Even with the Colorado massacre by a white guy it doesn't negate the high murder rate among blacks.

You might look down and look at the bottom where there is white on black and black on white murders. Blacks are about 5 times more likely to kill a white person than a white person killing a black person.

One was a violent crime with a firearm that was pointed at the clerk.

The other was a guy breaking into a house with no one inside.

The law also sees this differently as one is a misdemeanor and the other is a felony and possibly a measure 11 crime. One will get a few weeks in county jail and the other will get a lengthy prison term.Â
