Gym owner fights off knife-wielding car prowler

Gym owner Greg Price was on his way to a family dinner on Christmas when he stopped by his Longview business.
He had just left his car for a couple minutes outside the gym. When he returned, Price came face to face with an armed car prowler.
That began Price’s dangerous confrontation in which he narrowly avoided being stabbed but managed to fight the attacker away.
The fight began after Price spotted the man loitering outside the gym, Forever Fit. The stranger was in a hoodie and standing by his car.
“He had his arms in the window grabbing,” he said.
The attacker turned, wielding a knife. Price ducked, missing the knife, and then swung a punch at the man.
“It was a pretty hard punch,” he said. “It him in the stomach and caused that reflex where you drop the knife.”
That’s when Price grabbed the weapon and stabbed the attacker, though he doesn’t think the stab deeply penetrated because of the man's hooded sweatshirt.
The man ran off, carrying items he had looted from the car: a printer and an envelope with $500 from one of Price’s clients.
Price said he wasn’t worried about the stolen items. He credits his fitness training for being able to defend himself.
“I consider myself lucky because it could’ve turned out a lot worse,” he said.
One of Price’s clients, Tom Grasser, said it was the attacker who was fortunate.
“He’s lucky he got away the way he did because he could have easily been hurt real bad by Greg,” Grasser said.
did the prowler "lunge" at him?
??? Fishy story at best. Sounds a bit like fiction.
@opout Yeah, the guy dropped the knife but held onto the printer after having been stabbed?
I am not in the car-prowling business, so I hate to criticize another man's work, but wouldn't the parking lot of a gym be a rather bad choice of targets? Why not just go for a martial-arts academy?
Nothing like a little toe-to-toe to make you feel good about your training!! Too bad there was no blood trail to follow and yea, a .38 in the pocket might have finished it, but Mr. Price did not feel it necessary in that part of town...Â
If an attacker turned towards me brandishing a knife when I went to my car, he'd be shot by my concealed handgun that I pulled out on the way to my vehicle because of a stranger around my car. I wouldn't be swinging punches, I'd be pulling the trigger because an attacker swinging a knife at me warrants the use of deadly force. To say this idiot (the robber) was lucky is an understatement. To say the victim was lucky is also true: Don't swing at an assailant with a knife...dumb...really really dumb.

"Don't swing at an assailant with a knife...dumb...really really dumb."
The gym owner may have already made contact with the guy before realizing he had a knife, at which point he had to improvise. Swinging at a guy with a knife makes perfect sense in this case.
Where ya been, KATU? This was on the news last night at 10 also!
Hmmm... he punched the guy, grabbed the knife, kind of stabbed him with it and the crook still grabbed the printer before running? Really? Man, I got a get me one of those printers!
âIt was a pretty hard punch,â he said. âIt him in the stomach and caused that reflex where you drop the knife.â
LMAO! Those solar plexus shots can cause you to drop all kinds of things, including your lunch, but apparently not printers or cash.. Too bad the turd got away. This story would've been a lot more amusing if Mr. Price had chased him down and mopped the sidewalk with him.Â
@StealthActivist so can a kick to the groin..but I hear some cases it can cause a person to go into a rage..instead of dropping them..
Â
@lee986321 Depends on how you kick them. The wrong kind of kick and he'll probably get really ticked off at you. The right kind of kick will crushes the...um..."jewels" and pretty much render the guy immobile (and probably infertile, too.)
Â
And he definitely won't be running off with a printer...
@StealthActivist I hear it works on a woman to.
Â
@lee986321  @StealthActivist When she says she has more balls than you, she doesn't mean testicles, Lee. lol.
