Hogs eat Oregon farmer

RIVERTON, Ore. - A farmer's hogs ate too much of his body for a forensics expert to determine what caused the man's death, the Coos County District Attorney said.
The remains of Terry Vance Garner, 70, will undergo further examination by a forensic anthropologist at the University of Oregon in an attempt to determine what caused the man's death, District Attorney Paul Frasier said.
Garner was last seen Wednesday morning when he went to feed animals on his farm on Highway 42S.
When he didn't return home, a family member went to look for him and found Garner's dentures near the hog enclosure.
Parts of Garner's body were found in the hog pen. Frasier said investigators believe the hogs consumed the majority of Garner's body.
The Coos County Sheriff is investigating how Garner got in a position to be eaten by his pigs.
Among the theories investigators are pursuing:
- Garner suffered a health issue, like a heart attack, which put him in a position where the hogs could eat him.
- Given his age and health, one or more of the hogs knocked him to the ground, killed him and ate him. The hogs weigh 700 pounds or more, Frasier said. and there are reports that at least one of the hogs had been aggressive toward Garner in the past.
Frasier said investigators will also work to rule out if Garner was the victim of foul play.
"Due to the unusual circumstances," Frasier said, "the Sheriff's Office is investigating to determine if foul play may have resulted in the death of Mr. Garner."
The initial examination Saturday of Garner's remains left his cause of death as "undetermined."
Frasier hopes the expert from the UO can provide further insight into what led to Garner's death.
i know this is messed up and my prayers  go to him and his family but,   Animal Farm  anyone?
Kind of reminds me of the Gerald Stomps case.
What do you bet the pigs will be shot for this. Dont eat the bacon

Turnabout is fair play.
Has anyone here watched Deadwood?
Oh god. This is a story right out of a horror novel. That poor man.
Maybe we have a new torture device for the Taliban? You either talk or we feed you to the hogs!!!!
@Billy Batts Not exactly "new", but now that you mention it, I think that the very suggestion of allowing such an 'unclean' animal to consume one of the 'faithful' would be a hideous threat for those supposed-Muslims. I'm not big on manipulating religion to force somebody into talking, but I like your idea better than waterboarding (amongst other tried & true methods).
Assuming the likelihood that he died of a heart attack, we might just say that his passing was not altogether a tragedy, for he did provide sustenance for others. In any case, this incident should provide material for researchers who seek to disprove the myth that hogs have insatiable appetites, because he was not entirely consumed over the course of several days.
My very abusive stepfather fell down in the hog pen and they tried to eat him, but he got away. :(
Oh my gosh. How horrible and tragic. Condolences to all his family and friends. RIP Mr. Garner. ⤠It's pretty sick and sad to read so many insensitive and just plain cruel comments. I just don't get how fellow human beings can be so mean and heartless. Pathetic.
Really, and robme doesn't bother you?
@swimmer Are you one of those hogs or just a troll?
Oh my god, check this out: By katu. "Former child TV star Danny Bonaduce says a crazed fan bit him during an event at a Washington state casino."   Now christie went up I-5 into washington? That does it!  I'm breaking out my survival gear. He may be coming to a town near you!  who sent him? Why? Why? He needs to go back east. They have better sausage there. We kinda like vigan. You sick pubes sent him to us huh. Didn't you? Didn't you? Just because we're a blue state huh? How many did you tell him he could eat? Did you tell him everyone on in the northwest is on prozax? Well tell him please. tell christi that because of the prozax we don't taste good. Oh shieet, someones at the door!  Â
@swimmer My God, you're an idiot. How do you stand to live with yourself?
i'm mormon, ask my wives
@swimmer No, you're a troll....We'll just ask you right hand..."Unless you're left handed.
What a tragic thing to happen to another human yet some of the posters below are very insensitive to family members who may be reading this.
Â
I know it's an unusual event but please keep in mind your hurting the loved ones of this man.
@3X07 Oh, but you're perfectly fine with your favorite super-hero drowning everyone on the planet. Makes sense.
This is why Jimmy Dean never visits his sausage factory.
No fowl play here, but porcine.
This is a horror story. Stephen King stuff, just ugh.
 @brautigan Ever watch Deadwood??
My God, this is horrible- just horrible. My condolences and I hope the family was NOT planning a service with open casket....

@B Smizzle LOL! "Never trust a man with a pig farm." That's the first thing that popped in my mind!
well...there's nothing quite as delicious as barbecued pork, or a nice, juicy, bone-in pork roast for a wintery dinner. You have to figure...most of the time the pork we get from the supermarket has bedn raised in pretty sanitary conditions, fed better food and not left to root around and forage. This in no way will stop me from buying pork products. That's just stupid. HoneyBooBoo and her bunch eat road-kill...now that's a line to draw :(
Well, with the price of bacon supposedly starting to spike, I suggest all of pigs find their way to the deli section of the local markets.
There was an episode of one of the crime shows - CSI, I think - where this happened - a killer would feed his victims to his hogs. It's amazing what they will eat and how aggressive they can be.Â
@Jenni S. There was an actual serial killer in Canada who did it for real....
@Sundowner @Jenni S. Maybe the CSI episode Jenni referred to was based on the actual serial killer? As I recall, the team headed up to Canada . . .
Don't know about all of you but I hope I NEVER eat any pork that May have ingested a human....eeewwwwww. Â Hogs are omnivorous though and growing up on a farm, I heard a lot of horror stories about them. Â
A friend mentioned this years ago, the perfect way to lose an Ex if necessary...he was joking, but also serious.
Â
RIP Mr. Garner!
I thought we stopped looking for Jimmy Hoffa?
The offending hog needs to go to hog heaven, or wherever. But I'm sure our esteemed Governot K will have moral issues with that and commute his sentence. And I don't think there was any fowl play, as chickens or turkeys weren't involved this time! Oops, sorry, wrong foul.
Ahem.... (In my best Yackov Sminoff)In Soviet Russia, bacon eats you!
What a way to go. I would not doubt that this winds up as an episode on Spike TV's '1000 ways to die.'
They say you should beware of eating pork.
Â
I say you should beware of pork eating YOU!
Â
Yiiiiii!!
@Mikey I sure wouldn't want to eat those pigs. It's like one step away from cannibalism.
Clearly you all need to watch Guy Ritchie's movie "Snatch."
Â
"It takes 8 pigs about 16 minutes to consume 200 pounds of uncooked flesh. Bones and all. So beware any man who keeps a pig farm."
@Kaaarl I instantly thought of Brick Top when I read this article.
pay back is a beotch
Anyone that works hogs know this real
Boy, this resembles a scene from "Hannibal"..... I'm sorry for the family's loss. Pigs will eat any type of animal they can get. We're just one more item on their menu. Kind of ironic though. They were being raised for him to eat......
I hope the poor guy was already dead before the pigs started in on him.
@HenryBowman ~ I'm with you on this one, Henry...  Hopefully, the poor man stroked out or had a massive heart attack; just "went fast", with no pain.  Â
Â
Rest in peace, Mr Garner... Condolences go to the family for their loss...Â
@HenryBowman I agree! That would be the worst way to die I think!
Wow...I know they do...but 700 lb hogs are just unbelievable! And really??? A hog would actually attack and kill someone? I guess I still associate a hog with a pig. I wonder if they were partly wild? Grizzly but actually fascinating.Â
Â
You do NOT want to run across a hog in the wild. Very, very nasty creatures & as mean as can be.
@Bewitchin1  Some of them can be very aggressive, a sow with babies for instance, or a large boar. I thought they would have at least waited a day or so before consuming the man that feeds them but apparently I was mistaken. Hogs will eat literally anything. It's really pretty gross.
They're clean campared to chickens
@Bewitchin1 Hogs/pigs are the same animal. They are voracious omnivours and will eat any type of carcass they come upon. They are also well know to hunt weakened animals and have killed many a pet in areas where they have populated in the wild. A domesic pig is an oxymoron as just open their pen and they are wild! They don't attack their keepers only because they are fed well enough to be docile. 700 pounders are not easily controlled and only experienced handlers can deal with them.
