PORTLAND, Ore. – Interstate 84 was closed in both directions late Tuesday morning at N.E. 125th Ave., but reopened around 10:45 after an ODOT truck in the eastbound lanes pulled down some utility power lines, ODOT said.
Now, ODOT says it will need to close the freeway from time to time Tuesday night and through Wednesday morning so CenturyLink can fix those lines.
ODOT says drivers should expect significant delays and urges them to find alternate routes.
The lines crossed the westbound and eastbound lanes of the highway.
The northbound Interstate 205 ramp to eastbound Interstate 84 and the Northeast 122nd Avenue ramp to eastbound I-84 will close at 8:30 p.m. and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Wednesday, ODOT says.
ODOT says at 9 p.m. there will be intermittent closures on westbound I-84 between 181st and 148th avenues and on eastbound I-84 from Gateway to 122nd Avenue. The closures will last up to 20 minutes each.
All lanes should be reopened by 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to ODOT.
ODOT says its truck was cleaning out drains along I-84 and the medians when it pulled down the power lines. The agency says it will investigate what happened to see if training procedures need to be updated.
